Nature’s Flu Shot

Lack of sunlight + cold weather can take a toll on our immune systems in winter.

Lots of people are suffering with colds and coughs this time of year and finding it hard to shift the feeling that they seem to be ill through out the colder months.

Here are some ways to give your immune system the best chance at staying on top form:

1. Vitamin D

Most people in colder climates are deficient in vitamin D, and it is ESSENTIAL to our immune health. I recommend that you take a vitamin d supplement in autumn + winter especially.

2. Lemons

They contain vitamin C + are alkalising for the body which is great for the immune system

3. Garlic

Natures antibiotic, cook with lots of garlic, eat raw garlic if you are brave enough. This is a total miracle worker.

4. Turmeric powder

A great anti-inflammatory food. A magical spice that you can add to veggie curries and boost your immune system and health.

5. Raw Honey

Amazing nutritional enzyme content, take a tea spoonful a day for great benefits.

Here is a little recipe you can try:

  • Juice of 3 lemons
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne powder
  • 1 cup of freshly pressed apple juice
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Blend all together and store in the fridge. Drink 1/2 cup a day to keep your immune system strong!

Staying healthy in the skies

I’m off on my hol’s today, which I’m excited about, but I’m not going to lie the flying part can leave me feeling a bit drained, dehydrated, and with dried out skin.. not to mention flying is also a huge stress on the body.

However I do have some top tips to make the flying part more comfortable + much more nourishing to our bodies.

1. Stay nutritionally nourished.

This means take your own healthy snacks onto the plane. Such as some raw chocolate bars, unsalted soaked nuts, veggie sticks, hummus etc.. If you are flying in the day, try to have a big  healthy meal before hand so you can be mostly full for the flight and not to be tempted to eat the plane “food” (not sure food is the right word)

2. Drink lots of water.

Yes, probably quite an obvious one, but you need even more water when you are flying as it is so dehydrating. Take some coconut water on too for even more hydration + much-needed electrolytes. It will help you feeling fresh !

3. Keep your feet warm.

This will make your flight much more comfortable and because when you fly the temperature of the cabin is really dropped, you don’t want to be too cold and get sick. Being warm also helps your body relax, which means less stress hormones and again a more relaxed happy body.

4. Use essential oils

These can make all the difference to your mood,  use lavender to help you relax and sleep, orange oil to lift your mood, lemon to wake you up. Add a few drops to your wrist, neck or clothes.

5. Use an eye mask

Covering your eyes will help you relax and block out any disturbing light, helping you get some well rested sleep. So you can avoid jet leg as much as possible..

6. Keep moving

Walk up and down the aisle when you can stretching your legs, this will help your body’s blood flow + circulation working well, which will help you feel more energised and less stiff.

 

7. Meditate.

Great for calming the body and mind, preparing you for restful sleep and boosting the immune system. It’s a great opportunity to meditate too, and no excuses about not having enough time 😉

 

8. No Alcohol

So dehydrating and will really leave you feeling less than great on a flight. Go for herbal teas instead! and keep drinking water + coconut water.

9. Read

A flight is definitely more enjoyable when you have a good book to get lost in. Reading also helps to wind down and prepares you for a great sleep.

How To Fall In Love With Your Menstrual Cycle

Is it possible to fall in love with your period?

 

 

  • Do you dread that week in every month?
  • Do you dislike the person you feel like in those days on your period?
  • Do you hate feeling so emotional?
  • Do you experience a lot of pain & cramping?
  • Do you and your cycle just not get along?

 

It doesn’t have to be like this!

 

I’ve wanted to talk about this topic for a while, and now seems like the perfect time. I’ve noticed many of the people I work with really don’t enjoy that week in every month, and it feels like more of a chore than a gift at time.

I’ve been looking into the emotional aspect this has on us as women and how healing this relationship with our bodies is so powerful .

I’m usually talk about balancing hormones and the menstrual cycle using nutrition & supplements but today I am going to be talking about the emotional side of it and how powerful some simple acts of self-love can be.

 

Self love is like magic. 

 

I work a lot with self-love. The magic & power in the act of self-love . By self-love I mean really treating your body with love with your actions, words & thoughts.

Our menstrual cycle is a BIG part of us as women. It also symbolise our creativity, our intuition, our divine feminine energy & our softness.

It’s a beautiful part of us. So  you see if we are hating on it, or moaning about it, or even dreading it, we are directing that energy at ourselves. We are telling ourselves we do not like or accept that part of us. Which can have a negative effect on our own self-love for ourselves, which can reflect as illness, depression, lack of self-esteem and many other imbalances.

I’m all for building a heathy relationship with your body, telling your body you love it, that you appreciate it and just daily, truly being grateful for your amazing body.

 

 

I’ve seen time & time again how powerfully healing this is in every way.

 

Since I myself  have been focusing on building a healthy self-love relationship with my menstrual cycle I have felt & noticed so many benefits in my life.

  • I feel more womanly
  • I embrace every part of me
  • I feel nurtured, nourished and much more accepting of myself.
  • I have a new-found gratitude for my cycle and how amazing it is and also the magic it brings to our lives each month.
  • When you understand it you can start to flow with it too, and see this reflect in your life.

 

In one word you create MORE :

Self Love

&

this always feels amazing.

 

In this blog post I want to share with you my top tips on how to fall in love with your menstrual cycle and especially those days when you have your period.

 

Love Your Cycle – Love Yourself.

 

 Lets explore how you can fall in love with your cycle:

 

1. Track your cycle .

Really get to know it. How many days is it between each bleed? Do you know how long ago your last period was? I use an app on my iPhone called My Days, since using it over the last couple of years I feel like I understand my body so much more,  its patterns & rhythm.

 

2. Look into the moon cycle.

Also known as the lunar cycle, and how it is linked to women’s menstrual cycle. Human beings are effected by the moon, for generations, a woman’s monthly cycle has been tied to the moon cycle because they’re about the same length–with a “typical” menstrual cycle lasting 28 days and a lunar cycle lasting 29.5 days. I’ve noticed as I’ve had more of a healthy balanced connected way of living, my menstrual cycle would link itself to bleed on ether the new moon or full moon.

 

3. Listen to your body.

We can have a tendency to push our bodies despite the messages they are giving us. This usually leaves us feeling worse and also can cause a disconnected relationship with our bodies. We want to build a loving relationship– by truly listening to our body. When they need rest give them rest, be gentle, loving & caring, like you would be to a loved one. Really care for your body on the days of your period, your body will feel more tired. Its going through a process of releasing & cleansing. Which uses up energy.

 

4. Nurture & nourish yourself.

When your period starts especially those first few days, really nurture yourself. Take bubble baths with essential oils, give yourself a facial. Massage yourself with coconut oil. Relax and read a book. Enjoy raw chocolate – which is loaded with magnesium which helps cramps. Create a quiet space as you’ll usually feel more sensitive and want time alone. No that there is nothing wrong with this, it is totally natural and needed.

 

5. Let go & embrace the release

Your period is also a time of release, a cleansing, the body is letting go. You can aid this process by journalling any emotions that come up. I also find that letting myself feel how ever I feel with no judgement is an act of self-love. Resisting these emotions is when it feels hard. Just let them be and know that these emotions are coming up for a reason and that is to be felt & cleared. Each period you have is like a rebirth, for emotions, idea’s and creativity. It’s also a great time to set you intentions for the next month too. Just know that it is okay to feel like a soft, sensitive women, softness & sensitivity is a gift. Let it be.

 

6. Candle light

Artificial light can really effect our hormones and cycle. Since I have been using dimmed lighting at home in the evenings and candle light I have noticed a big difference in my cycles.

Before electricity and the light bulb, shifts in the amount of light at night during the moon’s various phases could possibly have played a significant role in our menstrual cycle, maybe by affecting certain body processes impacted by light exposure, such as the production of the hormone melatonin, prompting all the folklore tying our menstrual cycle to the moon cycle.

Try and use candle light in the evening when it gets dark instead of bright lights, a bonus is it’s much more relaxing & beautiful too.

How To Help Your Anxiety + Overwhelm

When did stress + being busy become so popular?

 

Are you being over stimulated?

 

Do you deal with overwhelm, anxiety, fatigue, headaches on a regular basis?

The answer YES to these questions are very common!

 

Most of us live very busy lives. The problem with this is that this pace of life keeps are nervous system working really hard.

Stress can really exhaust our nervous system , other things too like – caffeine, sugar, & electronics.

If I ever feel myself getting out of balance, I know that I need to address the stress & busyness in my life to bring myself back to balance.

 

Balance = Health

 

Slowing down is really good for our bodies and nervous system. We need to make sure we are taking care of ourselves and not living on fast forward all the time.

So here are a few things you can try, I promise your body will thank you for it.

(Even if you just experiment with these tips for a week and see if you feel more balanced and healthier.)

I guarantee you will feel so much better!

 

My top health tips for busy + stressful lifestyles:

  1. Cut out coffee, tea, chocolate, green tea, sugar – anything that stimulates the body.
  2. Cut down on the time you spend on your laptop & social media, & turn off all electronics by 8pm.
  3. Take 10 deep breaths, morning + night.
  4. Lay with you legs up the wall for 5 minutes before you get into bed.
  5. Take a bath in the evening, read a book, listen to music, or watch a good film, something that makes you relax and stay in the present moment.
  6. Hug someone daily.
  7. Try supplementing: Magnesium, Vitamin B complex, 5-HTP, Vitamin C
  8. Drink chamomile tea & tulsi tea (Holy Basil)
  9. Make sure you are staying hydrated throughout the day.

 

A healthy nervous systems = a  happier, healthier body & mind.

How To Live A Simple Fulfilled Life

Do you ever just crave a simple life?

I think we all do.. don’t we?

I’ve just got back from a week’s holiday, so of course I am still in holiday mode and fighting with the feeling that I have to let it go..

Let go of the relaxation, the ease, the simple life.

This could be called the “holiday blues” we have all probably experienced.

Which comes to today’s blog post –

Why can’t we always live the simple life?

Who stops us?

We do! Our own minds. The rules we give ourselves.

..

I was thinking about this as I laid on the beach. Why don’t I allow myself to feel this way everyday.. or at least try to.?

As I felt all of my body breathe a big relaxing sigh, and just let go into the moment, feeling grounded, present and in the flow. The only thing I had done differently was allowing myself, telling myself it was okay to, obviously the sea + sand + sun helped a lot also.. but I was in control of my feelings and I let myself just let go.

Which means I can do this anytime I like. So with this realisation I’ve come back from holiday with a very strong desire  to live in this way as much as I can in my daily life.

Simple Life = “Slow” + In the flow.

Relaxing. Trusting. Allowing

 

When we go on holiday we give our selves permission to let go, let go of worries back home, let go of stress, let go of responsibility. We LET GO.

 

Simple Life = Letting Go ?

I think it’s certainly a part of it.

 

We are after that feeling of FREEDOM, free from anything that we feel weighs us down, or plays on our mind.

So anything that drains our energy.

 

Simple Life = More Energy ?

Definitely does for me.

 

So what else can make us feel like we are not living a simple life?

 

“Responsibility”

This a big one.

When I go on holiday I feel I let go of some of my “responsibilities”.

Not all of them. As some are important to have in my opinion, such as being responsible for our own lives, our actions, how we choose to live etc.. its very similar to feeling empowered in your life.

However the “responsibilities” that I don’t feel serve us, are the ones that we feel we MUST do, that are more society driven, the ones that make us feel guilty if we don’t.

The ones that make us feel like we must do things a certain way – Like earn a certain amount of money, own a house, a car, work hard, work harder,

The responsibilities which make us put so much pressure on our selves, to achieve, to own, to be “somebody” . The ones that make us feel guilty when we take a break, or time for ourselves. That make us feel like self-care is a luxury + not a necessity.

It’s these  “responsibilities” this pressure that we put on ourselves,s which weigh us down. The stress we put on ourselves.

 

Simple life = More Balance

Yes

 

Simple Life = More Self Care

Yes

My week’s holiday gave me a beautiful reminder of what it is to truly live life. We have to live it the way we want to. This means being aware of the times we are not being very nice to ourselves. Working ourselves too hard and being all round to HARD on ourselves.

Each day on holiday I went for a run down to the sea, I went for a quick swim, meditated on the beach, then had a healthy brunch. Pure SIMPLE bliss.

I know I don’t have the option of doing that now I am home as I don’t live by the sea (yet). However I can bring the awareness of bringing simplicity into my life again on a daily basis, and allowing myself to feel as free as I did on holiday, and as balanced. It’s certainly a healthier way to live.

It’s a choice!
