How do you feel about social media?

I’m noticing a pattern at the moment of lots of people wanting to step back from social media, switch off, take a break, log out, and come away from this whole way of communication.

 

It feels like we all have this  love hate thing going on with social media.

 

Why ?

I think there are a few reasons –

  • People want true connection – 1:1
  • Social media can make us lazy friends – i.e instead of meeting with friends we will chat to them on Facebook.
  • It can make us feel isolated
  • It can fuel  comparison – comparing ourselves to others
  • It can make you feel un authentic.. a bit of a fake.. sharing only the “perfect” parts of our lives.
  • We can feel bombarded with information
  • It can take us out of the present moment & we can spend even more time on our phone than we want to.
  • It can become an addiction..

How To Stay Balanced & Grounded In Transformational Times

“We are all butterflies”

 

How are you holding up beautiful ?

I just wanted to check in, as I know a lot of people who I’ve been speaking to lately have been going through transformational times in these last few weeks, even months.

There is lots of change happening, lots of new opportunities & “ah ha” moments, but with all this can come challenge, fear,  and letting go of  parts of us that no longer serve us.

Why?

 

The energy that surrounds us is vibrating at a higher level, this is caused by planetary movements, eclipses and what you could call universal energy.

 

For those of you who are not quite sure about the whole “energy” thing or for those of you who would like to understand a little more about it, I will explain more :

 

You may have noticed by now that  I’m a health & lifestyle coach with a difference. It’s not just about nutrition for me, it’s so much more than that!  I call myself a soul cheerleader.  You could even call be a big hippy, it’s okay, it wouldn’t be the first time. I guess my coaching name gives it off –

“ Hooked On High Vibes”

 

I do feel a little like Mary Poppins with my big bag of “tricks” I love energy work. I use a lot of different things to bring balance and health into mind, body & spirit.

 

Crystals, angel cards, nutrition, cleansing, power of the mind, manifesting & reiki, energy healing.

+ so much more.

 

True health to me means a combination of everything. This includes the energy in and around your body.

I believe in passionately that everything is energy, everything that surrounds us is energy and energy affects the way we feel in mind, body & soul.

 

We are energy.

 

Do you ever have those days where you wake up and your just feeling a bit off, or lost, or overly emotional, sensitive etc.. and you blame yourself for not getting a good enough sleep, or not eating well the day before, or just put it down to “emotional issues” ?

Yep been there too.

Well yes all of these will have an effect on the way that you feel, however I don’t ever believe it is that black or white.

The energy around us plays a big part too.

 

If you are particularly sensitive, you will feel the energy that surrounds you even more so than others (that’s my story) however we are all being affected.

 

One of my favourtie things is to teach people to become aware of this energy, and how to use it to reach their highest potential, in health & happiness.

 

How do I become aware of energy? 

For instance if you go to a shopping centre and it’s crowded, think of  all the energies from lots of people all mixed together, this is why some people don’t like crowds – it can make you feel a bit overwhelmed.

Or you walk into a room where there has been a disagreement, you can feel the energy of the room and the people, without any words needing to be spoken.

 

This is what I mean by these energies having an effect on us.

 

We can feel it.

 

It is no different with the planets having an effect on our emotions too, (our energy)

 

So at the moment for instance, – if we look at the planets and how their placement is effecting our energy.

We have just had a big eclipse and we have another one coming again soon.

So for instance this week the planets are doing a great job of cleansing our emotions. We are between 2 eclipses so energetically a lot of “stuff” has been stirred up and we are experiencing accelerated change.

This can bring up our deepest fears to the surface, and we may be feeling emotionally sensitive (even more so).

These kind of astrological events have a big effect on the way we feel.

It’s becoming aware of these things, so you can see the bigger picture. It’s all part of our journey, to see that we experience things to grow & evolve.

So please be gentle on yourself  with these energies affecting us.

Allow emotions to come up, let them out, and let them be. Allow these feelings, dance them out, write them out, cry them out, and do not judge them. These are all steps for you to reach your highest potential, and we have these emotions & feelings because we are human.

How To Create A Relationship Of Love With Your Body

You are beautiful!

 Yes you are!

I am so passionate about helping young girls & women especially, build a loving relationship to their bodies.

This subject is very close to my heart, and has been a BIG part of my own journey to health,happiness & balance.

My experiences with my relationship to my own body has been a journey of big self discovery and I am happy to be able to share what I have learnt along the way to help others.

This blog post is to share how I recovered from a very toxic relationship with my body, food and myself in general.

Where it began: 

I had anorexia when I was 14/15 years old and I thank my younger self for getting the help I needed by reaching out. However the relationship with my body did not improve until many  years later.

I also developed orthorexia in my early twenties, which in a way was just another way of controlling my food – in a nutshell it’s being obsessed with eating the “right” food.

I ate so “perfectly” – it became a total obsession. I had no balance at all.

Balance is the key.

 

I was also diagnosed with body dysmorphia in my late teens, which at the time was very life consuming for me. When I look back to those days, I had very little self-confidence and a lot of self-loathing. My self-love was at an all time low.

Body dysmorphia  is when you can’t see yourself in the same light others do, you literally “obsess “about a certain part of the way that you look., so much so that it’s all you think about, and it takes over your life.

So as you can see, I had a lot of things to work through, and for me it was all an inside job.

I had a lot of self hate talk going on for a very long time. I really didn’t like myself or think in any way I was “good enough”

 

I had to change the way I saw my body

 

Now as I sit here writing this I realise how passionate I am about helping others reach the place I have arrived at on my journey. Where I am happy with my body,  I feel balanced and I can now say I love my body .

 

 Balance & happiness looks different for everyone.

 

This is balance for me:

I’m happy – even if I eat a processed chocolate bar, I’m happy even if I have a few spost on my face, I’m happy even if I put on a little weight over the winter months, I’m happy even if I am not “perfect”.

 

I’m happy being at ease with my body.

Its taken me a while to get here and the self-love journey is a forever journey, however I am finally FREE of the things that made me feel so trapped, out of control and effected my happiness and therefore my health too.

 

So, here I want to share with you the ways that have helped me create a loving relationship with my body:

 

1. Your body is amazing!

Firstly, realise that your body is always working for you. It’s always doing its best and working hard. Becoming aware of how freaking fantastic our bodies are, how they work, and what they do all day long can help you see your body in a different light .Truly feeling grateful for the “simple things” we can take for granted, such as breathing, a beating, pumping heart, all the work your body does internally that you just don’t see. This bring a sense of gratitude, which is powerful at changing the way you feel and shift your thinking.

2. The beauty of balance

Don’t give your power to food. Yes, health is amazing, it’s what I stand for, but I also stand for balance, as you need both to be truly healthy. Balance is different for everyone. For me it’s eating healthy 99% of the time, I’m happy here. It’s also not giving myself strict rules to abide by, or limiting foods as off-limits, because as soon as you do that, you are going to crave that “thing” that is off-limits with all your might!

You will rebel.

 3. It’s not about the numbers!

Stop counting calories, stop even looking at the calories on food packaging, stop putting numbers into that damn macro app on your phone. Get numbers out of your head. If there is a pattern I see over and over again, it is what obsessing about calories does to us physiologically . It creates an unhealthy relationship to food. Food is food, its fuel, it is not about the numbers. I am not a lover of the word “calories” at all actually, whenever I hear that word it makes me cringe!

Eating healthy in my opinion, doesn’t need calories counting. We all have a good idea of what is a health food and what is not. We also have a good idea about what a good portion size is and what is not. We can begin trusting ourselves and stop relying on calories to guide us.

4. Trust your body.

When you truly tune into your body and connect with yourself and your emotions, you can become more aware of what a true craving is.

Cravings can be emotional, nutritional, or even just thirst. Its becoming aware of these feelings. The more you practise tuning in you will be able to tell when you are truly hungry or if it is something else driving your craving. Trusting your body to tell you when it is hungry and how much food it needs gives you back your power and trust in your own intuition.

I simply eat when I am hungry and this connects me to my body and its messages.

5. You & Your Mirror.

Get naked and tell your body you love it, and yes in front of a mirror. This may feel uncomfortable at first, however this kind of self-love is important.

It’s to be practiced and it’s to be carried on for the rest of your life. Tell your body you love it, appreciate it. Focus on the parts you love and send them love & appreciation in words, thoughts or a dance routine 😉 Then focus on the parts you find it hard to focus on and tell those parts you love them too.

6. Choose food from love not fear.

When I make a food choice I check in with myself and see if I’m making this choice out of fear (feeling bad) or love (feeling good) do I want this food to make me feel better, cure-all of my problems and dull my emotions so I can’t feel them anymore? Or do I want to eat this food, because I want to eat it with love, appreciation, gratitude and it is adding to an already happy state.

Food is not my drug but it is to be enjoyed.

7. Change your thoughts.

I believe our thoughts are so important. Our thoughts create our actions and our actions create our reality. So for instance when you may slip up on your ” ideal” way of eating, you may berate yourself or feel bad. Which usually leads to a binge of “bad” food to make us feel better.

However if we change our thoughts about these “slip ups” and stop the guilty feelings, we are more likely to shrug it off and carry on towards our goals and what makes us feel good.

8. Focus on feeling healthy

Focusing on feeling healthy and not just focusing on your appearance and how you want it to change, is good for your mind. The bonus of being healthy is that it shines on the outside too. When you focus on feeling good all the rest follows without having to worry about what you look like all the time.

9. Nourish & nurture.

When you focus on how you can take care of yourself and how you can love yourself on a daily basis, this starts to create a loving relationship with yourself.

You choose a certain food because you want to feel good, you choose an activity because you want to nourish yourself and feel good.

When it comes from love over fear it feels so different, you become your own best friend, instead of your worst critic.

The One Thing That Can Change Everything

If there is one thing that you could do for yourself that would change everything would you do it?

I believe there is ONE  thing that you can do, that does change everything!

If done on a regular basis.If you make it part of your life. You will see magic happen.

 

What is that ONE thing?

It’s connection.

  • To yourself.
  • The place we find the answers.
  • The place we understand ourselves, the why’s & the hows.
  • I’m talking about true connection.

 

Is it that simple?  Yes it is.

So why aren’t we all doing it?

 The answer is because of resistance.

Our minds resist it.

 

WHY?

My belief is that with connecting to our true selves brings change, and our minds are scared of change.

We try to keep ourselves safe. Even from change that is taking you towards your dreams & your highest potential!

 

Here are 5 simple ways you can start to connect today:

1. Space. Silence. Stillness.

This is my number one for connecting to you. What will happen though is you will hear your thoughts, they will get louder, they will make you want to stop, do something else. Its okay, just listen to the thoughts. This is part of connecting with yourself. Taking the time out of the day to really hear what is going on your head without the rushing & busyness of the day.

2. Take a hot bath

with your favourite essential oils, a good book, some candles. Yes this is connecting to you. Taking time for you. Hopefully there will be no resistance here.. Unless you don’t give yourself enough self-love and the thought of having “some time out” may bring up guilt? Do it anyway!

3. Go for a walk.

without your phone. Take in everything around you. Listen to your thoughts. Breathe deep and just walk. By the time you get home, notice how connected you feel to yourself. No time for a walk. Then go for just 5 minutes. It will still make all the difference.

4. Write

A journal. Notes. Scribbles. Any way to let out your thoughts. Write with no expectations. A brilliant way to connect to your desires, dreams, wishes, is to write them down and get clarity in who you are & what you want. I can’t write. I don’t know what to write? Don’t think just start. You’ll be amazed at what comes out.

5. Dance

Have you ever just danced, let yourself go in the moment. In your room, when no one is watching. I bet you have! Dance is a great way to connect with yourself, your emotions, there is a part of you when you dance freely that we don’t often show other people. It is pure emotion. I say put your favourite song on, and let yourself go to the music for just one song. Then see how you feel afterwards. More connected? Yep!

 

Resistance will come up. You just have to remind yourself that each one of these things connects you to yourself and WILL make you feel happier, balanced and CONNECTED. If you practice doing one of these things a day – then resistance will fade. If you can do more than 1 of these a day. Fantastic!

How To Feel Vibrant This Autumn

My favourite time of year is here. Autumn. What I love about autumn is the colour of the leaves, the beautiful oranges, reds and warm yellows – great for our first three chakra’s, the root chakra, sacral chakra and solar plexus.

Grounding & Earthy:

I also love the grounded energy that autumn brings me, its an earthy season, and I am a virgo which is an earth sign, so i’m pretty sure that is another reason. I love the crisp freshness of the air combined with the sunshine.

Eating Seasonally:

I love eating seasonally, and with autumn comes the root veg, and my favourite fruit, blackberries. Nothing beats picking your own fruit and eating straight from the bush.

Eating seasonally is great for our bodies, we are naturally drawn to warmer foods than we were drawn to in the warmer months in summer, it makes sense right. That nature provides us with the food we need at the right time. I believe following this natural rhythm is good to achieve a balanced healthy body.

Here is a list of foods that are in season in the autumn months – (in the UK):

Vegetables

  • Beetroot
  • Carrot
  • Celeriac
  • Fennel
  • Field – Mushrooms
  • Kale
  • Leeks
  • Lettuce
  • Marrow
  • Potatoes
  • Pumpkin
  • Rocket
  • Sorrel
  • Squashes
  • Sweetcorn
  • Tomatoes
  • Watercress

Fruits

  • Apples
  • Blackberries
  • Damsons
  • Elderberries
  • Pears
  • Plums
  • Quince
  • Sloes

There are also supplements you can take to help your body adjust to the change in season.

Extra’s:

Vitamin C – I recommend health force nutritionals – Acerola cherry powder, I take this every morning in autumn/winter. Another great way of getting extra vitamin C is drinking warm lemon water in the mornings or throughout out the day. Lemons are great for boosting the immune system, helping keep our systems alkaline, cleanse our liver and it stimulates the digestion. You could add Ginger for a extra immunity boost.

I also eat lots of garlic and onions for their natural antibiotic properties.

Turmeric is great also, highly anti inflammatory and immune boosting, and great for adding warmth to your foods, perfect in a veggie quinoa curry.

Probiotics – something I recommend all year round, but especially in the colder months. They are great at building our immune system, seeing as 70% of our immune system is in our gut.

Movement:

Keep your body moving in these colder months, to make sure your lymph keeps pumping and helping your body cleanse toxins and waste. The lymph doesn’t pump itself so it needs movement. Yoga is great, and walking outside in the fresh air will keep you feeling fresh and not stuffy from staying in and sitting for longer hours when it is colder.

You could also use a little trampoline called a rebounder, these are great to use in the day when you have a few minutes. It helps with circulation, and keeping your lymph pumping. They are very small trampolines so you can keep them in your house, in the office if your work at home, and when you are feeling stiff or lethargic, just bounce for a few minutes and you will feel energised again.
