Happy Hormones For Health

Hormone balance is so important. Especially for women. I’ve been through my very own long journey with my hormones and I want to share with you what I have learnt so far.

I posted the above  picture on Instagram about Soy/ Soya products which generated a lot of interest so I will start there.

Processed soy is a recipe for hormonal disaster! It totally messes with your estrogen balance, causing estrogen dominance. 

Just some of the processed soya products I am talking about are :

  • Soy milk, cheese, ice-cream, yoghurt
  • Tofu
  • Soy meats
  • Soy proteins

Reasons to avoid soy :

  • Soy contains goitrogens which is a substance that interferes with iodine metabolism and stops the thyroid from functioning properly.
  • Soy is loaded with isoflavones, which are a type of phytoestrogen. Phytoestrogen’s are  a plant compound resembling human estrogen. These compounds mimic and sometimes block the hormone estrogen.

*Drinking even two glasses of soy milk daily for one month provides enough of these compounds to alter your menstrual cycle.*

  • Soy is a GMO crop, which means it is also heavily sprayed with pesticides.

Fermented soy is a lot better but only if organic and properly fermented! 

  • Tempeh
  • Miso
  • Natto
  • Soy sauce

Although again it depends on quality / from a trusted source. Please do your research.

Estrogen dominance can show up as symptoms such as :

  • Acne
  • Breast Cancer
  • Fertility problems
  • Polycystic Ovary syndrome
  • Endometriosis
  • Irregular periods
  • Rosascea
  • Mood Swings
  • Depression

Estrogen dominance wreaks havoc on our bodies. Plastic is also a culprit, by  ingesting toxins from plastic’s, which means drinking out of plastic bottles, keeping your foods in plastic containers, especially fatty foods as these absorb the toxins more.

The birth control pill will also mess with your hormones and cause estrogen dominance. All of my hormone problems got so much worse when I went on the pill in my late teens, I went on it to try to help my acne. (little did I know back then)

It did so much more damage. I developed rosacea as well as endometriosis. All signs of way to much estrogen and an overtaxed liver, which is trying to deal with all of the extra estrogen.

However there are many ways of balancing the hormones, and cleansing the body is the best way!

  • Liver flushing, cleansing the liver
  • Liver support supplements – milk thistle, dandelion, burdock, artichoke, msm.
  • Avoiding estrogenic foods, yes sugar, wheat and dairy are some of those foods

I will go into these all in detail in my next post. I hope this post helps you on your way to happy healthy hormones.

The Inner Child Project

I’ve been wanting to write this blog post for a while now. I’ve finally got round to doing it after working real hard on my new website which will be launching next month!

It’s quite relevant that I’ve not got round to writing this post because I’ve been working hard, and that is what this post is all about.

The work & play balance.

I was sitting in meditation the other day and this idea popped into my mind.

MORE JOY, MORE FUN! 

I could feel my soul screaming, yes please, I need that.

I needed a little gentle reminder,and meditation is one of those ways that those beautiful reminders come in. I’ve been very focused on “work” and I love my work, but still I need a balance, and my balance has been a bit skew whiff!

We all need more joy and more fun, I mean you can’t overdose on it.

“The more the merrier.”

It’s obvious right ?  but how many of us have fun on a daily basis ?

Real fun, the fun that we had as child.

The inner child is often neglected, and I believe this has a big effect on our overall happiness, contentment, and it will reflect itself in our lives in some way or another.

Manifest magic = Inner child loving

Our inner child needs some BIG loving, and I’m on a mission over the next 30 days to do just that.

I’m going to take part in my own little project – The Inner Child Project.

I’d really love it if you took part too, I know you’d really benefit.

We can all experience more joy, fun and happiness together. Plus you know what they say the more good vibes out there, the more they will join forces and work together to help change the energy of the world, the universe, the other people around us to happy, happy, happy.

“High vibes are contagious”

The inner child project is a 30 day project. The rules are simple.

  • Firstly, sit in meditation, relax, and think back to your childhood. what did you love to do? what could you get lost in for endless hours? Write down all of the ideas that pop into your head, write as many as you can think of. They can be as silly, out there as your want, but ones that you can actually achieve is important.
  • Then once you have your list. Pin it somewhere were you can see it everyday. On a mirror, on the fridge, by your bed, as a bookmark in a book. Where ever you will see it everyday.
  • Each day you will take some time in your day to do one of those things on your list, for 30 days.
  • Take a photo, post it on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter or ALL of them, hash tag it #innerchildproject.

Watch the magic happen as you work your way, sorry I mean PLAY your way through 30 days. At the end of 30 days I believe you will be feeling MUCH more joy, happiness and gratitude. You will of re programmed your brain, to look for the fun, but not even just looking for the fun, but actually having fun, every day!

Creamy Caramel Hot Tonic

By now I’m guessing you know that I LOVE my hot tonics.

I always try to make them as medicinal as possible by using super foods and chinese herbs – these add an extra zing to the tonic and will keep you HIGH VIBING all day long!

I make my tonics very intuitively, meaning I know how much to add, I don’y usually measure it out, however for you, I have done my best to remember what quantities I used. Although I do believe each recipe out there is always adjusted for the UNIQUE individual.

Ingredients:
  • 1 tbsp of Lucuma
  • 1 tsp of Mesquite
  • 1/2 tsp Ho Shou Wu  (read below for its benefits)
  • 1 tbsp of Coconut cream
  • pinch of Cayenne powder
  • 1 tsp of Vanilla powder
  • 1 tbsp of Coconut sugar
  • 1 tbsp Hemp seeds
  • 1 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 2 tsp of Raw honey
  • 2 cups of Filtered hot water
Directions

Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Serve hot & enjoy!

*Let’s get to know: Ho Shou Wu*

  1. Ho Shou Wu is great for rejuvenation, stress relief and brain health.
  2. It gives the kidneys a lot of love too.
  3. Great for building up reserve energy, so great for people suffering with adrenal problems. Feel exhausted? Frazzled? This will help.
  4. It will also make you feel calmer as it works on the nervous system and brain function.
  5. It’s also said to reverse grey hairs. I haven’t got any grey hairs yet at 33 so haven’t been able to test that one out yet.

How To Embrace Your Resistance

Feeling stuck?

Like you are wading through mud?


Have you got that “I wanna do it.. but I just can’t..” feeling?


Why does it feel this hard?

 

Have you ever felt like this? and if you say no, I don’t believe you 😉

Good old resistance, it’s a part of life we can not escape.

The escape part however is where I believe we have it all wrong. I’m  going to suggest we embrace the emotions that resistance brings up.

In my experience with resistance, it only gets worse if you fight it, try to escape it, or try to resist the resistance.  I’ve been dealing with my own resistance recently. With redesigning/ branding and writing content for my new website. It takes lots of creative flow, and I was on a roll for at least 2 weeks. Nothing could hold me back, I was on fire!

Then Bam! I Hit the wall. The resistance wall.

The mental dialogue that followed went something like this:

 

“Why has this happened?  

What am I doing wrong?
 

Should I drink more green juice?  

Take more fish oil?  Do a cleanse?  Get out the yoga mat?  

(actually the yoga mat is a good idea, and the cleanse too.)”

 

Thankfully my intuitive mind stepped in and said “hey hold up, for just one second Sarah, be gentle with yourself.”

I think you should :

  • Meditate.
  • Sit quiet. (another word for meditation)
  • Breathe
  • Listen

So I did, and I heard the message loud and clear, and I want to share it with you.

 

 “Relax.  Resistance is a blessing. Resistance is a message from our soul.”

 The soul message is:

Are your ready for whats to come? It’s going to be good!

It will bring with it some big changes. Are you ready for those?

Do you really want this?

Yes?

 

My understanding is that the resistance is helping us with a part of ourselves that is scared and the resistance is checking in with us to see if we are ready. Even if it’s something we think we really want!

Change can be scary. Even good change. Even “dream come true” change can scare us.

The soul is doing a grand old job, of getting you to check in with yourself, to decide if you are truly ready and if you truly want it.

 

So I replied:  Holy YES I am ready!   Soul resistance answered:  Well great, let’s go then!

Guess what happened.  The resistance just fell away.

 

“I allowed the resistance in. I spoke to it. It listened. We worked together.”

 

Resistance has left the building for now, and I’m sure it will be back. At least I now know how to work together with resistance  and face head on the message it brings.
