Hug a Tree a day, keep the doctor away

IMG_6230

“Trees are the kindest things I know,
They do no harm, they simply grow…”

Okay yes I am a total hippy. I don’t deny it!  and yes I am going to suggest to you that you start hugging tree’s!

It’s not crazy really, and here I will explain why, it makes perfect sense to me:

  1. They are strong and rooted, an energy that we need in our lives to feel balanced and healthy.
  2. They absorb your negative energy and turn it into positive energy.
  3. They will relieve your stress
  4. They give off oxygen.
  5. Tree’s grow over time slowly, standing for years if they are left alone to grow  naturally, they are full of wisdom and knowledge from the everything that they see over the long years they stand.

The Science part :

In a  book called Blinded by Science the author Matthew Silverstone, proves scientifically  that tree’s improve many health issues. He reveals the  scientific data showing trees improve  issues such as mental illness, ADHD, depression, the ability to alleviate headaches, reaction time and concentration levels.

He lists countless studies of children who showed significant psychological and physiological improvements in their  health and well-being when they interacted with plants and trees. Their cognitive and emotional abilities improved and they experienced more creative play in ‘green’ areas.

He explains that the reasons are  simply that everything vibrates and different vibrations affect biological behaviors.  When we touch  a tree its different vibrational pattern will affect the various biological behaviors within the human body bringing it into a healing alignment.

Hug-A-Tree

How to connect with a tree:

I always feel at peace when I am immersed in nature, but even more so when I am in a wood surrounded by tree’s, I feel grounded and present and can feel the energy from the tree’s all around me. Next time you find yourself out for a walk, and feel drawn to hug a tree and try for yourself:

  1. Close your eyes,
  2. Take a deep breath and focus on the tree,
  3. Be aware of the energy coming from the tree, what does it feel like?
  4. Keep hugging the tree and you will feel re-charged and renewed!
  5. Tree’s are very healing 🙂
  6. ( You can always do it when no ones around if you feel self-conscious, I always find it better when I am in a quiet space by myself )
  7. You may feel weird at first, but don’t worry, after a while you will be a proud tree hugger!

Your natural Instinct’s:

Remember when you were a child and you climbed tree’s.. ( maybe you still do like me ? ) we were instinctively drawn to connecting with the tree at a young age when our gut instincts were strong, we knew we felt good climbing and being in contact with tree’s .

So off you go fellow tree hugger ! Go and make friends with the tree’s again, they are ready and waiting to share with you some healing positive vibrations.

tree love

Beautiful Beings – Miss Eco Glam

I’m so excited to introduce you to the lovely Anna Rodgers aka Miss Eco Glam.

She has inspired me for a long while now, I was drawn to her blog and all the great information she shares, how she overcame her health challenges  and her strong passion for healthy, toxic-free living . I am so happy to introduce you to her :

Anna & Lola

Where do you live in this wonderful world at the moment?

I live in Forest Row, East Sussex, which is a beautiful leafy village with lots of eco people and organic farms.  There’s even the biggest Rudolf Steiner school In Europe here. Sadly though its possibly about to be ‘fracked’ so I don’t know how much longer we would live here for if it goes ahead.  Fracking can potentially pollute the water and also the air, which means cancers could increase.  I don’t want my daughter to have to grow up so close to all of this. So if it cannot be stopped we may have to move.

What do you do for “work”?
I am a journalist and an author. I’ve got a website called missecoglam.  I try to educate people about being healthy, in particular highlighting the dangers of the chemicals we are exposed to. People don’t know nearly enough about them, or what they can do to avoid their exposure and what supplements they can take to get rid of the chemicals they do have. I am on a mission to tell people about it all.
Tell us a little about your beautiful unique self:
oooo it’s hard to not giggle reading this, it’s not usual that we think of our ourselves as beautiful and unique is it? Most can relate to feeling inadequate due to being bullied/teased at school and having bad childhoods so it’s a big deal to say, maybe it is true!  maybe I AM beautiful and unique! I certainly try to inspire that in others too as far too many of us don’t like ourselves.  And that alone can cause one big unhappy life!
I guess whats unique about me is that I am sharing my story about what happened in my life to help others.  I became very sick and depressed through toxic exposure and also suffered from a very unhappy childhood.  This is not that rare for many people either which is why many can relate to me, when they suffer a lot of stress, it means their bodies systems break down and they aren’t able to keep toxins out of their body. When the liver suffers too, it means that it can’t do its job properly and all hell breaks loose in the body and sickness and depression can set in.
I am an extreme case of course, as I had a very big exposure to Lead when I was young, but what happened to me quite suddenly is happening to many people, but very slowly over time through toxic chemicals accumulating in their bodies.  So I guess what makes me ‘beautiful’ is that I am so concerned about it that I care enough about perfect strangers and of course my loved ones, to learn from me and try and understand why so many people are becoming sick and dying of things that are due to chemicals in our environment.
What are your unique  talents & gifts?
hmmm maybe just to be a writer that has a very ‘down to earth’ and ‘friendly’ tone which is why people seem to like what I am doing?  I think one of my gifts is that I have ‘been there and done that’ been to hell and back I suppose, so that when I am talking to others going through similar things, it gives them a sense of understanding and motivation that if I could beat what happened to me, so can they.  My depression was so bad, that I attempted suicide several times and nearly died on a few of them. I really shouldn’t be here by any means except fate!
What does being healthy mean to you?

It means feeling great, thinking great and treating others well. When we are healthy, we are happy, when we are happy, we are kind to others and when we are kind, we have wonderful and abundant lives. Toxins affect every aspect of this. If we have too many in our bodies and brains it can make us feel unwell, and that we aren’t capable of thinking clearly or in a balanced manner. And this then leads to not being able to be good to others because we aren’t going to be functioning the way we are actually designed to do.

 What makes you feel alive?
Being with my daughter Lola, and watching her enjoy nature and to laugh and to find simple things wonderful.  I love watching her walk around and chatter to herself with her baby talk that only she can understand.  Children really show you what its like to have no ego, no worries and to just love simple things. I learn a lot from her every day!
What breakfast gets you off to a flying start?

This morning I had banana and peanut butter ice cream and chopped up bananas with some cocoa powder sprinkled on the top, I have to say that it’s given me a flying start today! delicious!

What would be your perfect day?

This is the extreme dream version – I would wake up with Lola and hubby on an island somewhere beautiful (Tahiti!) then we would have a beautiful tropical fruit breakfast by our gorgeous hut over the water. Then we would have a swim together and then hubby would take Lola off to play somewhere whilst I had a 3 or 4 hour (!) spa treatment followed by a swim with dolphins in the sea.  Then a lovely walk along the beach with hubby and Lola, talking and looking at the sunset.  Then we would have a beautiful healthy organic dinner by the water. Then lying under the stars, then bedtime!  oh god I want to go there right now lol!

What’s your top 3 foods that make you feel vibrant?
Mango, coconut and papaya! I just love those!!
What’s your favourite nourishing recipe to share with us?
I absolutely adore fruit soups. They are so easy to make. You basically make a thin smoothie base with something like pineapple, mango blended up, then you chop up some banana, papaya, strawberries and throw on the top, then you can even top it with some passionfruit.  That’s it! SO yummy!
What are your top tips for happiness, health & balance?
Keep toxins out of your body, by using a regular detox product like Pure Body by Touchstone Essentials, eating well with organic wholefoods and keeping mind healthy by forgiving people who’ve hurt you and sorting out childhood issues (which most of us still carry around to this day). And to never give up on learning about the world and what we can do to help others.
Do you have a favourite quote or mantra?

‘We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors – we borrow it from our children’

What message do you want to share?

That if you care about health, you really need to understand about the silent epidemic that is affecting us all – the onslaught of chemicals from our environment. People have to understand that we come into contact with at least 90,000 toxic untested for safety chemicals EACH YEAR. And that we must take something that is proven to help remove lots of those chemicals. Too many people ‘eat well and exercise and live clean’ but don’t actually realise their bodies are still affected by so many chemicals – this is why so many so-called ‘healthy’ people are dying of cancers. Their bodies are still carrying around a whole load of chemicals that cannot be dealt with by the body.

Whats is the most influential thing you have learnt on this beautiful journey called life so far?
That life IS what you make it, it’s ALL about how you think!
Where can we find you ?

Plastic.. Fantastic..? I think not!

IMG_6505

I am loving my new water bottle!

I’ve been making a big effort at avoiding plastic’s as much as I can, and now carrying my filtered water in this lovely bottle.

This one is made by Klean Kanteen  and made of stainless steel. So no plastic!  BPA Free and much better for my body and the environment 🙂

It’s great quality and made to last, the price of £15 was certainly worth it. I bought the 800ml bottle, which is perfect for my morning workouts and carrying around with me on the go, making sure i stay hydrated. I got mine from Urban Yoga online, who are a UK Distributor. They have a great selection and so many different colours to choose from. They don’t however do the kid’s bottles, which you can get from here.  My little niece has one and she loves it!

Why I avoid Plastic :

  • Research suggests that plastics may leach chemicals if they’re scratched or heated. Research also strongly suggests that at certain exposure levels, some of the chemicals in these products, such as bisphenol A (BPA), may cause cancer in people.
  • BPA is a weak synthetic estrogen found in many rigid plastic products, food and formula can linings, dental sealants, and on the shiny side of paper cashier receipts (to stabilize the ink). Its estrogen-like activity makes it a hormone disruptor, like many other chemicals in plastics.
  • Hormone disruptors can affect how estrogen and other hormones act in the body, by blocking them or mimicking them, which throws off the body’s hormonal balance.
  • BPA also seems to affect brain development in the womb. In 2011, a study found that pregnant women with high levels of BPA in their urine were more likely to have daughters who showed signs of hyperactivity, anxiety, and depression. The symptoms were seen in girls as young as 3. It’s not clear why boys aren’t affected in the same way.

As well as being able to increase the risk of cancer! The fact that plastic also messes with our hormones and can create estrogen dominance which is linked to many health issues :

  • Acne
  • Weight problems
  • Endometriosis
  • Digestive Issues

Our hormones are so important and keeping them balanced is Key to good health!

Here are some more ways to avoid plastic:

  1. Avoid canned foods
  2. Don’t cook food in plastic
  3. Use Glass containers to store food – Instead of plastic Tupperware containers, chose metal or glass food storage. Glass mason jars are great for storing bulk items like beans, grains, and nuts.
  4. Choose reusable. You don’t need plastic forks and spoons in your lunchbox, use metal utensils from your own utensil drawer instead.
  5. Get rid of plastic cooking utensils. Ditch the plastic tools like spatulas and serving spoons in favor of wooden ones.
  6. Bring your own bag to the supermarket or farmers market.
  7. Buy dishwasher detergent that comes in a cardboard box. Dishwasher detergent often comes in a plastic container. Skip the plastic and opt for the powdered stuff in a cardboard box.
  8. Skip the nonstick. Did you know that the nonstick coating on pots and pans is actually plastic? Instead of nonstick, choose cast iron or stainless steel so you can cook plastic free!

Beautiful Beings – Debbie Jordan-Mills

DEBBIE

Happy Friday everyone! I am really excited to introduce such a beautiful soul, Debbie Jordan-Mills. I connected with Debbie about 8 months ago..  she holds wonderful meditation groups that I go to regularly, combining crystals, angel meditation’s and connecting with your spirit guides.

Connecting with Debbie has been so helpful to me on my spiritual journey which is forever growing and learning.  She has really reminded me of the importance of  getting in touch with my soul purpose and my self-love.

I am very grateful for Debbie and the shining light she brings!

Where do you live in this wonderful world at the moment?

I live in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, UK.

What do you do for “work”?

I am a Usui Reiki Master, ACHO Crystal Healer and writer. I run workshops, give healing sessions and offer coaching for life transformation/self empowerment. My work is my passion as it is the result of wanting to share my experiences of spiritual awakening and helping others open up to the adventure of living a conscious, connected soul-led life.

Tell us a little about your beautiful unique self:

I am a country girl at heart who grew up in the Wiltshire countryside surrounded by horses, dogs and endless summers of den making, galloping and tree climbing. Now after years of being on the corporate ladder and rushing through life I find myself heading back to a simpler more connected way of living.

I had a powerful spiritual awakening in 2000 when pregnant with my Daughter, I was visited by an Angel. The experience changed the way I saw the world and my life forever.

I am happiest connecting with people (through teaching, coaching and writing) and sharing wisdom.

What are your unique talents & gifts?

I want to share with people wisdom about life mastery, energy management and self-empowerment in a down-to-earth, simple way that they can relate to. My aim is to help them connect back with their soul, their inner wisdom and their natural connection to the earth. This all adds up to a life of more love, more joy and more exciting awakening experiences.

What does being healthy mean to you?

It means doing the best I can each day to nourish my body and give it the best chance of health through my choices. I can have great week juicing, eating fresh fruits and healthy meals then find by the weekend I can’t get my head out of the biscuit tin!

I have learned to be gentle with myself, release guilt/blame and listen to what my body needs. Through my work I understand the link between food and emotions – so kindness to self plays a big part in making positive healthy food choices each day.

What makes you feel alive?

I feel fully alive each day because I took the leap, the leap to work for myself, to leave a relationship that had served it’s time, to follow my dreams, to live a conscious spiritual life that has become a wonderful adventure. To feel alive you need to feel free and freedom only comes from being totally honest with yourself. The last few years have been challenging, amazing, magical and unexpected. I have learned to trust my inner wisdom, expect miracles and see the blessings and gifts in each moment. Aliveness comes from listening to your heart, acting on your creative ideas, playing with life and not taking it too seriously. I think all of these should be taught in school – imagine a world where all the children grew up feeling alive, inspired, connected and wanting to bring their heart-felt dreams into reality!

What breakfast gets you off to a flying start?

Every morning I make a delicious ‘superfood’ smoothie. I soak organic almonds overnight then whizz them up in a blender with coconut water to make my version of almond milk. Then I add 1 teaspoon of maca, chia seeds, coconut oil and bee pollen and 2 teaspoons of raw cacao powder. I then add a mixture of a chopped banana with berries (blueberries, strawberries and/or raspberries) this is then all whizzed up in the blender.

The result is a fantastic chocolate/banana super smoothie that tastes like a naughty treat but is actually really good for you. After a year of making these I still get excited every morning about having chocolate for breakfast!!!

What would be your perfect day?

My perfect day would involve walking in the countryside, being out in nature, connecting with friends, talking with inspiring, positive people, eating good food, laughing, having an adventure, crystal shopping, meditating, log fires (Winter), hot sunny days (Summer), being around dogs, cats, horses and visiting some vintage/antique shops along the way.

Any of the above in any variation would be more than perfect!

What top 3 foods that make you feel vibrant?

1 Green juice – Beetroot, kale, spinach, carrot, apple, ginger and lemon.

2 Water – I know it’s a drink but it makes me feel really good. I know how bad I feel if I don’t drink enough or go back to coffee.

3 Lemon – Great in hot water, squeezed over salad or added to juices. It is refreshing, cleansing and tasty.

What’s your favourite nourishing recipe to share with us?

A simple mixed salad – green leaves, baby spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, blueberries, hemp oil, apple cider vinegar, pink Himalayan salt, pepper.

What are your top tips for happiness, health & balance?

Be kind to yourself, allow yourself quiet reflective time, get outside into nature, let go of the past, blame only hurts you, expect amazing, don’t settle for a poor version of anything, the answer is always within.

I have found that a good sleep, drinking water, meditation and eating natural unprocessed foods are the answer to almost everything!

Do you have a favourite quote or mantra?

I REMEMBER – I use this mantra to unlock the wisdom within my DNA, to remember why I am here and what I have come to do. I say this over and over out in nature to remember my connection to the earth and the web of life. I use it to connect with my souls mindstream through time, to awaken the wisdom of all my lives and to embody it in the present. I say it quietly when holding a crystal, to open up to our oneness and feel the unique patterns of energy we create. I use it to connect with my heart, my soul and the oneness of all life.

What message do you want to share?

You are a soul experiencing life through a body. You are eternally wise, very powerful and in control of your life in ways you may not believe. To open up to remembering who you really are is the most exciting journey a person can take. It takes courage, trust and the willingness to be totally lost before you can be found. If you are in a life that doesn’t fit you any more, listen to your inner calling, maybe its time to trust your heart and soul and decide you deserve more.

What is the most influential thing you learnt on this beautiful journey called life so far?

I have leaned to listen, to trust my inner guidance as it is always leading me to the right experiences for my highest growth. When I listen within I get clarity, feel confident and are connected to my hearts wisdom. Listening and trusting what you receive is one of the most powerful ways you can change your life.
