Adrenal Health – Key to Energy

tired

Stressed ? Tired ? Exhausted ? Anxious?

You may be on the way to or experiencing Adrenal Fatigue..

Here are some more symptoms:

  • Excessive sweating or perspiration from little activity
  • Lower back pain and/or knee weakness or pain, especially on the side
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Low blood sugar
  • Heart palpitations
  • Sensitivity to light, or difficulty seeing at night
  • Cravings for salt
  • Easily irritated
  • Chronic infections (bacterial, viral, fungal, yeast)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Tired but wired feeling, poor sleep, difficulty getting out of bed in the morning
  • Cravings for sweets and carbs, intolerance to alcohol
  • Dry, unhealthy skin with excess pigmentation
  • Lack of libido
  • Tendency to startle easily
  • Poor concentration and fuzzy thinking

These can all be sign of adrenal fatigue.

The world we live in & Life is busy , I know. The “typical” fast paced lifestyle most of us have is unfortunately causing lots of adrenal exhaustion.

relax

A reason why many people are feeling tired, exhausted even,  and just can’t seem to get their energy back which will affect overall health too.

These little glands are so important, they help us deal with stress, producing hormones, assist with blood pressure and blood sugar and most of all provide us with energy we need.

adrenals

We all want more energy, balanced stable energy, to be able to do all the things we want to do, like : workout, achieve our goals and dreams. Energy is needed to live the lives we want.

The adrenals are like our own battery pack, and you need to take care of them to keep them fully charged and not depleted.

How can I do that?

Here are some great ways to start rebuilding your adrenals:

Cut out Stimulants:

  • Processed sugar
  • Caffeine
  • Chocolate – can be over stimulating for some (even the healthy kind, the cacao itself contains caffiene, which for very sensitive types, and vata constitutions can be overstimulating.)

Manage Stress:

  • Try Yoga
  • Meditate
  • Grounding (Putting your bare-feet on the earth each day, boost’s immunity and balances the stress hormone cortisol.
  • Sleep & Rest – Listen to your body. Good quality sleep, aim for 10pm.

Food:

  • Eat good quality fats : Fish, Avocado, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Nuts & Seeds
  • Quality Salt – Pink Himalayan or Sea Salt.
  • Protein – Grass fed meats, Free range eggs,
  • Lots of Veggies – especially greens

Supplements & Herbs for the Adrenals:

  • B vitamins
  • Vitamin C – food source of vitamin C like Acerola cherries & Camu Camu,
  • Ashwaganda
  • Ginseng
  • Rhodiola
  • Reishi
  • Chaga

wellness-and-meditation

People with very weakened adrenals should be careful not to undertake a cleanse which involves fasting, cleansing is very beneficial, but to someone with very weak adrenals this can cause even more problems on an already weakened state.

Focus on rebuilding & nourishing the body with whole foods, eating 3 good-sized meals a day, to build your energy.

The adrenals can take a while to fully recharge, but while implementing the above information you will feel your energy increase and much improved health.

Once your adrenals are working again and happy you will notice a big difference in energy, mood, emotions and the joy of having consistent balanced energy!

We went to the Wild Food Cafe Juice Bar! Where they have the most amazing selection of juices/smoothies and elixirs that choosing one was too hard, so I got 2 😉

IMG_5539

We had dinner at Saf, which is my favourite raw food restaurant in London, Saf is in wholefoods,Kensington and it is always well worth the trip.

I enjoyed a raw food platter, which was amazing, and oh my god the stuffed vine leaves with cashew filling, out of this world.

IMG_5526

Dessert was a rhubarb cheesecake with cashew cream. Delicious!

IMG_5535

Not to forget I visited one of my favourite shops in Covent Garden, Neal’s Yard Remedies. Full of lotions and potions, all smelling divine and Organic, Toxic free and ethically made. I treated myself to an essential oil for my oil burner, De-stress, perfect for burning at the end of a busy day.

You are what you drink

I am sooo excited!

I do get VERY excited with anything to do with health & wellness, especially with my new purchase, a new water filter!!

We’ve been using a brita water filter for a couple of years now, and I’ve wanted to upgrade my quality of water for a while, but whilst staying in rented property it isn’t the time to invest in a whole house water filter system. So this was the next best thing.

I wish we had a spring nearby.. that would be ideal, however we now have a Aquasana water filter, that attached to the tap.

IMG_5618

So now we  have filtered water on tap! 😉

IMG_5615

I am so impressed with this water filter, it was super easy to install, great value, and the filter last for 6 months too. The water tastes great.

So why filtered water?

It’s actually scary to look into what is in our tap water.. and when you do, you probably will not want to drink it again.

  • lead
  • herbicides
  • pesticides
  • pharmaceuticals
  • chlorine

Seeing as we are 70% water, water is very important for health. My belief is that we need to stay hydrated and try to get the best possible water we can, our water intake in itself can improve our health so much.

First thing I recommend to clients is Hydration and make sure you are drinking enough water.. this has massive effects on health quality and energy, and getting good quality toxic free water is even better for our bodies and overall health.

My Summer Juice Cleanse

IMG_5737

I recently completed The Clean Program 3 week cleanse and it went really well.

I really enjoyed having 2 x shakes/smoothies a day, and one main meal for lunch, I’ve always preferred drinking my food mostly! So I found it really easy.. It’s much easier to eat lighter too now that we are out of the cold months, so naturally I find myself wanting less heavy meals, so smoothies are perfect!

It was great preparation for my Summer juice cleanse too.

IMG_5755

I do a juice cleanse with every season, even though The Clean Program was a great rest for my digestion and a cleanse in itself,  I really enjoy my juice cleanse’s and thought it would be great to combine the 2, one after the other.

Resting our digestion is great for healing, rejuvenation, and I have lots going on at the moment, it gives me even more energy and clarity to be able to do all that I want to do!

I’ve been loving coconut water,  and this Juice cleanse has had plenty of it added to my juices for extra hydration.

IMG_5944

Some of the Juices I enjoyed were:

  • Coconut water, apple, spinach & parsley.
  • Carrot, Beetroot & coconut water.
  • Coconut water & spirulina.
  • Coconut water, cacao powder & lucuma (what a treat)

IMG_5910 IMG_5757  IMG_5735 IMG_5708 IMG_5724 IMG_5654

I usually do at least a 3 day juice cleanse, and then just listen to my body and see where it takes me, usually between 3 – 10 days..

This one was 6 days, and I am really ready for a lovely big salad with avocado!

As always a juice cleanse resets my appreciation for true hunger, lighter simpler meals, and brings awareness to portion size and listening to your digestion, not eating till your over full, but just right.

I love the results I get for body, mind and spirit on a juice cleanse, it’s such a refreshing reboot.

Warning : You will probably want to start throwing things out! You naturally start to de-clutter your life as you body lightens up and you de-clutter your body from toxins and old waste/emotions.

IMG_5749

I broke my cleanse with some juicy melon!
