Hazelnut & Chocolate Bites

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of pecans
  • 1/2 cup of raisins
  • 1 tbsp of hazelnut butter
  • 1 tbsp of raw honey
  • 1/4 cup of coconut shredded
  • 1 tbsp of raw cacao powder

Add the pecans to the blender and blend into a flour, add in the coconut and cacao powder & blend again, then add the rest of the ingredients and blend. You may need to stop and stir the mixture to get everything mixed well as it can be quite sticky…

Once it has mixed into a dough texture, roll into little balls and place in the fridge to firm.

These are great for kids, and perfect chocolate fix for everyone.

Enjoy!

Fermented Food – Healing you gut and Improving your health

Sauerkraut! Have you tried it? Okay so it may be a an acquired taste, but did you know how beneficial it is to us?

Fermented Foods are amazing, they are great for healing our digestion system, balancing our good and bad bacteria, healing leaky guts which can lead to food intolerance, allergies, depression, malnutrition and many more symptoms.

A healthy digestion I believe after lots of research and 10 yrs of experience of healthy living in my own life is one of the most important aspects of a healthy happy body, physically and emotionally.

The digestion is our power house, it’s where we get our energy from, it’s the place which nourishes us and feeds us. You know how you feel if you eat too much, it reflects it self not only in low energy levels whilst our bodies desperately try to digest all the food we over ate.. but also in our mood, we feel sluggish, don’t feel as cheery or as energetic.

60-70% of our immune system is in our gut, so if your digestion isn’t working properly, if you’re experiencing bloating, heaviness, gas, constipation, diarrhea or any other digestive discomfort, this will also show up in more frequent colds, virus and an overall feeling of just not feeling at your best.

So. Fermented Foods, a few more reason to sell you on these foods:

  • Cheaper than probiotic
  • You can make them yourself, super easy to make!
  • Your body will actually start craving the goodness

You can experience:

  • clearer skin
  • more energy
  • a flat stomach
  • strong digestion
  • clarity and better concentration
  • stronger immune system
  • better sleep

Have I convinced you yet??

Well here is a recipe I have for Sauerkraut, it’s so easy, you’ll want to give it a go 😉

IMG_2287

Sauerkraut

Ingredients

  • 1 – 2 cabbages, shredded
  • 1 tbsp carraway seeds
  • 1-2 tbsp of sea salt (make sure its good quality sea salt)
  • Filtered water

Add the cabbage and caraway seeds to a bowl, add in the sea salt and massage with your hands for 10 mins. Which is actually very therapeutic, like meditation, a stress ball etc..

The cabbage will start to release juices. Then add to a clean Mason Jar that has been cleaned well and with hot water to kill any nasties.. we only want the good bacteria to grow!

Push the cabbage into the mason jar, packing it in tight so no air pockets can form as we want to keep the oxygen out. This is the process of healthy fermentation. Once the jar is full and packed tight, the juices should cover the top layer of cabbage by at least 1cm. If  not add a little filtered water and a pinch of salt until it does. You can put a cabbage leaf right at the top as a seal and then screw the lid on.

The leave somewhere at room temperature, in your kitchen, and the fermentation process can take about 3-4 days.

The sauerkraut will be ready to eat, there shouldn’t be any mould.. but you may have a top slayer of slightly slimy cabbage which you can discard and the cabbage underneath should be fine.. it will smell kind of vinegary when ready!

I recommend you start slow when adding fermented foods into your diet, a tbsp a day and work up..

Because it is a fermented food it is loaded with good bacteria which will start to work on your levels of good and bad bacteria by killing the bad guys! which can initially cause bloating and some symptoms.. but go slowly and you will start to reap the benefits!

It’s a great, ancient food, and I believe can improve your health in unbelievable ways 🙂

Enjoy

Detox the right way!

Touchstone Essentials!

I’ve been using these products for at least 4 months now and I am super impressed! It can be hard when we are trying to eat better and cleanse the body that if we cleanse too fast we can experience nasty detox symptoms that can give us breakouts, tiredness, moodiness and cravings.. which is why colon cleansing whilst cleansing and eating a healthier diet is a good idea. Help get those toxins out of the body that are being stirred up.

In addition to colon cleansing I highly recommend this Zeolite product by Touchstone Essentials. –  Pure Body.

I wanted to give these products a good go, as they were recommended to me last year, and I only recommend products I truly believe in and have experienced for myself with good results.

Also I am fussy when it comes to the quality of supplements that are available! Touchstone Essentials ticked all the boxes for me, so another reason I was attracted to them. They use the whole food form to create their supplements and do not heat over 106F to preserve the nutrients of the fruit, veg or herb used.

So far I’ve tried the following supplements:

Pure Body and Pure Body extra strength

IMG_2065

This is a zeolite product and comes in 2 strengths, they recommend you take the normal strength first for at least 2-3 months before you move onto the Pure Body extra strength, so your body can detox at a good speed and not too fast that it’s uncomfortable.

Zeolites are a negatively charged mineral which works like a magnet, attracting positively charged toxins, safely and gently carrying them out of the body.

I have been taking this every day for about 5 months, and i have noticed a significant increase in energy, clearer skin, and more clarity and creativity. It’s been a great addition to my healthy lifestyle and I feel rest assured that this product helps me get rid of toxins in a fast effective way. Great when I’m Juice Cleansing or detoxifying at a deeper level, using the zeolites relieves my from any detox symptoms you can experience when stirring up old toxins. The Pure body helps the toxins leave the body, instead f being stirred up but then re-entering the blood stream.

Purebody is great at removing heavy metals too! My immune system has felt so much stronger too since taking Pure Body, and now i’m taking Pure Body extra strength I am cleansing at a deeper level and i still feel great.

I’m not great at taking supplement either, I usually take them for a month or so and then stop, but with the Pure Body and SuperGreens + D I’ve taken every day for 5 months as I feel they help me to feel as healthy as I can, especially on those days when your body has more to handle!

IMG_0741

The Super Greens+D are a mix of greens, probiotics and Vitamin D. I love that I’m still getting my greens to balance my ph and keep me alkaline even on those days when i don’t eat enough salad or fit in my green juice to my morning routine.

Highly recommended 🙂

The Perfect Pancakes

I’ve been making healthy versions of pancakes for the last 4-5 yrs, but these have to be my favourite so far!

The perfect pancake:

  • powder from 1 x vanilla bean

Topping:

  • chopped strawberries
  • chopped cherries
  • almond butter
  • raw honey
  • medjool dates chopped
  • cacao powder
  • coyo coconut yoghurt

Add the eggs, banana, protein powder & vanilla to the blender. Blend until smooth.

Pre-heat coconut oil in a sauce pan, add 2 tbsp of the mixture and cook for about 2 minutes each side.

Pancakes ready and now for the topping!

I topped with the raw honey first, then the almond butter, then added the strawberries, cherries and medjool dates. Then added the coyo yoghurt and sprinkled with raw cacao powder.

Pumpkin & Sunflower Seed Milk

I usually make milk with Almonds, or Brazil’s or even Pecan’s..as my Dairy free milk. However I had lots of seeds left over from when I soaked a whole batch and froze them and once i had defrosted them I didn’t want the to go to waste.. so I decided to make a seed milk!

It was a success so I’ll share what I did and why it makes a nice change and is oh so good for you too!

Pumpkin & Sunflower Seed Milk

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of soaked pumpkin seeds
  • 1 cup of soaked sunflower seeds
  • 1 1/2 litres of filtered water
  • 3 medjool dates
  • pinch of sea salt

Add everything to the blender, I use my trusty Vitamix!

Blend until smooth and then strain through a nut bag.

Easy 🙂

I store mine in a mason jar in the fridge and it last for at least 4-5 days.

IMG_2310

I used the milk in this recipe: A delicious Superfood Smoothie.

It’s important that you soak the seeds first for at least 12 hrs, this makes the seeds more nutrient dense and also easier to digest. The digestion is your power house!

To soak or not to soak..:

Soak!! The reason for this is that nuts, seeds, legumes and grains, while rich in nutrients and enzymes also contain phytic acid which inhibits the absorption of calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and zinc, they also contain enzyme inhibitors that work to block the absorption of minerals. In nature, phytic acid exists so that the seed or nut can protect itself until the proper conditions are met for it to sprout, grow and reproduce.

In addition to blocking key minerals from being absorbed into the body, phytic acid can be a great strain on the human digestive system. Traditional people have soaked and sprouted seeds, nuts, legumes and grains for millennia in order to get the optimal nutritional benefits from these foods. Once soaked, the phytic acid is deactivated and released into the water and the enzymes and minerals in the food are more readily available for absorption into our bodies.

Why Pumpkin & Sunflower Seeds are so good for you!!

Sunflower seeds :

Raw sunflower seeds are a rich source of vitamin E, a valuable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, and a source of vital minerals such as magnesium and selenium as well as linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid.  The seeds contain lots of iron, which can combat anemia, and lots of chlorophyll, which helps detoxify the liver and the blood. Amazing Stuff!

Pumpkin seeds:

Pumpkin seeds are rich dietary source of magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, manganese, iron and copper. So many people are deficient in important minerals like magnesium and zinc. The seeds are a good source of tryptophan, the amino acid that converts to the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is important for coping with stress and deficiencies can lead to depression and insomnia.

Pumpkin seeds are also a fairly good source of certain B vitamins which help regulate mood. Combine this with the tryptophan mentioned above and pumpkin seeds look like a great food to eat when stressed or tired.

Give this seed milk a go and let me know what you think…
