Day 3 Of The Clean Program

I’m doing the Clean Program, as I mentioned in my  last post.

clean1

It’s a 3 weeks cleanse, and I will be updating my experiences throughout  the next 21 days!

Day 3 !

I’m doing the cleanse from the book and so taking my own supplements as close to what the book recommends..

Supplements I’m taking:

Touchstones supergreens +d  x 2 capsules

digestive enzymes x 1 with lunch time meal

probiotics x 1 with evening shake

multi vitamin x 1 with morning shake

dandelion tea throughout the day

Energy & Movement:

I managed a little 30 minute workout this morning, I love moving my body in the morning and my energy was good once i got moving, I did wake up very hungry and a little heavy. I’ve been very productive through the day and my mind feels more free.. as my digestive load is lighter. I do feel my hunger rise up before each shake or meal.. and recognising emotional hunger coming up more in the evenings.

Bowels:

Bowel movements are good,  ordered the natural calm magnesium from amazon, so waiting for that to arrive to add to my evening water. I will also be adding in coffee enema’s if needed…

What I’m adding to my shakes:

sunwarrior protein powder vanilla x 1 scoop

maca x 1 tsp

inner glow beauty powder x 1/2 tsp

chia seeds x 1 tbsp

hemp seeds x 1tbsp

Usual base for shake :

coconut water

avocado

berries

cinnamon

greens – spinach/lettuce

Additional foods I’m avoiding:

lemon

coconut

raw cacao

( I have had tests run on these and unfortunately they are coming up as a food sensitivity for now, so have cut them out aswell as the elimination diet in the book, sad because I miss my lemon water and adding coconut in my smoothies and veggie dishes, but it is worth it for even more energy! )

Move Your Body

The importance of moving our bodies daily is Top of my list for vibrant health!

walking

Nutrition and Fitness go hand in hand.

I’ve tried eating a healthy diet and being lazy… the extra nutrition helped but i still didn’t feel my best. I’ve tried exercising a lot.. and eating whatever I wanted (junk, not enough vegetables) and again I did not feel my best!

Now a winning combination and there is no mistake about it, combining great nutrition with daily exercise will make you feel amazing!

Moving our bodies daily is a great help for our lymphatic system, which doesn’t have its own pump, we have to help it out, our movement gets the lymphatic system working, which means carrying the waste through our lymph nodes.

Once the lymph fluid approaches the heart it is returned to circulation and makes its way for further cleansing of toxins by the liver and kidneys. The lymphatic vessels are not connected to the blood circulatory system, and unlike blood which is pumped by the heart, lymph fluid relies on bodily movement and exercise to drive it through the lymphatic system.

Forceful flushing of the system cleanses lymph nodes, contributes to healthy, clear lymph fluid, and boosts the immune system. Stagnant, slow-moving and thick lymph fluid is due to a lethargic, toxic body and weakened immune system.

So this is why we must move!

Healthy Lady

I love exercise that makes me sweat, as it’s a great cleanse for the body, cleans the pores and helps push those toxins through the skin. However not all movement needs to be hot and sweaty to get our lymph moving.

Here are my favourite ways to move daily:

  • A walk in the fresh air
  • Yoga
  • Sprints
  • Jogging
  • Rebounding
  • Massage
  • Hula Hooping
  • Dancing
  • Gardening
  • Skipping
  • Cycling
  • Crossfit

Benefits you may see from a healthy flowing lymphatic system:

  • Clearer Skin
  • Healthy Glow
  • Stronger Immune System
  • Better Digestion
  • Healthier Circulation
  • Less toxins being absorbed

Not only will your body feel and look better with regular daily movement, it will help your mood too with all the endorphins released whilst and after exercising.

I find exercising daily brings me these benefits :

  • More clarity & Focus
  • Stress Relief
  • Confidence
  • Self esteem
  • Self Love
  • Positive Attitude

Add some movement to you day and reap the benefits :)

Healthy Digestion For More Energy

Digestion is key to health in my eyes. Our tummy’s should be looked after, as it’s where we absorb our food all the goodness, vitamins and minerals in the food we eat.

Period-Pain

You see even if you are eating the healthiest diet, if you’re not digesting and absorbing the food your eating efficiently, you will notice this in not experiencing the best health, maybe tiredness, feeling bloated, skin problems, low energy, and many more symptoms.

Digestive health is the key to increasing your energy and feeling more alive.

I have a few tips on how to encourage a more efficient digestive system :

  • Stay hydrated – water is so important for healthy bowels, helps with constipation. Drink clean filtered water through out the day. I start with a lemon water, and try to drink 2 pints before I start my day.
  • Movement – move your body, walking, running, rebounding, yoga any form of exercise stimulates the digestion, gets the lymph moving and provides the body with more oxygen. All great for digestion.
  • Greensjuice, smoothies, salads, soups. Get your greens in, helps the body let go of waste, high in magnesium which is essential for great digestion too.
  • Food Combining – okay so this one may take a little practise, but i assure you your digestion will love you! The key is to eat fruit on its own, separate protein from starch meals, so tuna on that sweet potato ..would take the body longer to digest than say a sweet potato with veggies, or tuna with salad. This is a basic overview, give it a go!
  • Probiotics – take a good probiotic, eat fermented foods as much as you can, I love sauerkraut, kombucha and kefir.
  • 70% full – Don’t eat until you can’t eat anymore, leave a little room for digestion, we often overeat, I still do sometimes, being aware is a good first step, to eat until you are comfortable will help your digestion so much.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – add this to salads, or water. Great for digestion and alkalising the body!
  • Gluten ? – try going without gluten for a week, see how you feel..
  • Soaked Nuts & Grains – soaking nuts and grains before you eat or cook them helps with digestibility x 1o0! Nuts and grains have a coating that can irritate the gut, it’s a toxin that the grain/nut has to protect itself in nature. Soaking nuts/seeds and grains over night improves the nutrition too.
  • Eat 2 – 3 hrs  before bed-  Going to bed with a full tummy is not only uncomfortable, but stops the body from cleansing the body and regenerating ,as it has to work so hard on digesting instead. Digestion slows down the later it gets, and you are missing out on quality beauty sleep if your body can’t do it’s job properly whilst you sleep. You will find you wake up feeling much more refreshed if you eat at least 2-3 hrs before you sleep, and preferably before 8pm.
  • Quality Sleep -  Yes, sleep is good, but good quality sleep is better! I go to bed between 9 and 10pm, the hours before 12pm are the most important, these hours hold the most rest, repair and detoxification. We need energy for digestion, so if your body is tired, your digestion will be sluggish, and you will more than likely have cravings from sleep deprivation.
  • Grounding yourself –  being outside, fresh air, nature, is all great for your digestion and overall wellbeing. Try taking your shoes off and connecting to the earth.

happy-and-free

Enjoy :)

Don’t Fear The Fat

Fat is not to be feared, I used to be very wary of fat’s but not anymore!

I focus on eating my essential fats daily, and have realised how important they are for health, and the way they makes me feel.

chia seeds

Fat is so essential for good health.

  • skin,
  • hormones,
  • brain,
  • blood sugar levels

Especially us ladies!  We need our fats!

Good fats are essential for

  • healthy hormone production,
  • regular menstruation
  • fertility.

Although not all fat is created equal, that’s for sure,  I’m talking about Essential Fat’s, Our Omega’s, 3, 6 and 9.

Avocado 2

Omega 3′s are particularly important, as we don’t usually get the right balance with modern foods, and our ratio in is much higher in Omega’s 6′s to Omega 3′s which in excess can cause inflammation and imbalance hormone levels.

I know for myself if I over indulge in nuts, especially my beloved cashews, I can break out due to over consumption of omega 6.

Here is a list of my favourite fats for great health:

  • Hemp Seeds
  • Chia Seeds
  • Coconut  Oil
  • Coconut flesh
  • Avocado
  • Wild Fresh Fatty Fish – Salmon, Sardines, mackerel.
  • Flaxseed’s
  • Eggs (don’t throw away the best bit, the yolk!! )

I love this oil too, I have a tbsp a day in a smoothie or on a salad. YUM!

Try and eat more of these foods and see how they help your skin, hormones and blood sugar, which will help with cravings, snack attacks and your overall mood.

Here are some recipes which include beautifying fats:

Avocado & Lemon Mousse

Goji Bites

Quinoa Superfood Bowl

Pumpkin & Sunflower Seed Milk

Chocolate Orange Mousse

Enjoy x

Fermented Food – Healing you gut and Improving your health

Sauerkraut! Have you tried it? Okay so it may be a an acquired taste, but did you know how beneficial it is to us?

Fermented Foods are amazing, they are great for healing our digestion system, balancing our good and bad bacteria, healing leaky guts which can lead to food intolerance, allergies, depression, malnutrition and many more symptoms.

A healthy digestion I believe after lots of research and 10 yrs of experience of healthy living in my own life is one of the most important aspects of a healthy happy body, physically and emotionally.

The digestion is our power house, it’s where we get our energy from, it’s the place which nourishes us and feeds us. You know how you feel if you eat too much, it reflects it self not only in low energy levels whilst our bodies desperately try to digest all the food we over ate.. but also in our mood, we feel sluggish, don’t feel as cheery or as energetic.

60-70% of our immune system is in our gut, so if your digestion isn’t working properly, if you’re experiencing bloating, heaviness, gas, constipation, diarrhea or any other digestive discomfort, this will also show up in more frequent colds, virus and an overall feeling of just not feeling at your best.

So. Fermented Foods, a few more reason to sell you on these foods:

  • Cheaper than probiotic
  • You can make them yourself, super easy to make!
  • Your body will actually start craving the goodness

You can experience:

  • clearer skin
  • more energy
  • a flat stomach
  • strong digestion
  • clarity and better concentration
  • stronger immune system
  • better sleep

Have I convinced you yet??

Well here is a recipe I have for Sauerkraut, it’s so easy, you’ll want to give it a go ;)

IMG_2287

Sauerkraut

Ingredients

  • 1 – 2 cabbages, shredded
  • 1 tbsp carraway seeds
  • 1-2 tbsp of sea salt (make sure its good quality sea salt)
  • Filtered water

Add the cabbage and caraway seeds to a bowl, add in the sea salt and massage with your hands for 10 mins. Which is actually very therapeutic, like meditation, a stress ball etc..

The cabbage will start to release juices. Then add to a clean Mason Jar that has been cleaned well and with hot water to kill any nasties.. we only want the good bacteria to grow!

Push the cabbage into the mason jar, packing it in tight so no air pockets can form as we want to keep the oxygen out. This is the process of healthy fermentation. Once the jar is full and packed tight, the juices should cover the top layer of cabbage by at least 1cm. If  not add a little filtered water and a pinch of salt until it does. You can put a cabbage leaf right at the top as a seal and then screw the lid on.

The leave somewhere at room temperature, in your kitchen, and the fermentation process can take about 3-4 days.

The sauerkraut will be ready to eat, there shouldn’t be any mould.. but you may have a top slayer of slightly slimy cabbage which you can discard and the cabbage underneath should be fine.. it will smell kind of vinegary when ready!

I recommend you start slow when adding fermented foods into your diet, a tbsp a day and work up..

Because it is a fermented food it is loaded with good bacteria which will start to work on your levels of good and bad bacteria by killing the bad guys! which can initially cause bloating and some symptoms.. but go slowly and you will start to reap the benefits!

It’s a great, ancient food, and I believe can improve your health in unbelievable ways :)

Enjoy

Detox the right way!

Touchstone Essentials!

I’ve been using these products for at least 4 months now and I am super impressed! It can be hard when we are trying to eat better and cleanse the body that if we cleanse too fast we can experience nasty detox symptoms that can give us breakouts, tiredness, moodiness and cravings.. which is why colon cleansing whilst cleansing and eating a healthier diet is a good idea. Help get those toxins out of the body that are being stirred up.

In addition to colon cleansing I highly recommend this Zeolite product by Touchstone Essentials. –  Pure Body.

I wanted to give these products a good go, as they were recommended to me last year, and I only recommend products I truly believe in and have experienced for myself with good results.

Also I am fussy when it comes to the quality of supplements that are available! Touchstone Essentials ticked all the boxes for me, so another reason I was attracted to them. They use the whole food form to create their supplements and do not heat over 106F to preserve the nutrients of the fruit, veg or herb used.

So far I’ve tried the following supplements:

Pure Body and Pure Body extra strength

IMG_2065

This is a zeolite product and comes in 2 strengths, they recommend you take the normal strength first for at least 2-3 months before you move onto the Pure Body extra strength, so your body can detox at a good speed and not too fast that it’s uncomfortable.

Zeolites are a negatively charged mineral which works like a magnet, attracting positively charged toxins, safely and gently carrying them out of the body.

I have been taking this every day for about 5 months, and i have noticed a significant increase in energy, clearer skin, and more clarity and creativity. It’s been a great addition to my healthy lifestyle and I feel rest assured that this product helps me get rid of toxins in a fast effective way. Great when I’m Juice Cleansing or detoxifying at a deeper level, using the zeolites relieves my from any detox symptoms you can experience when stirring up old toxins. The Pure body helps the toxins leave the body, instead f being stirred up but then re-entering the blood stream.

Purebody is great at removing heavy metals too! My immune system has felt so much stronger too since taking Pure Body, and now i’m taking Pure Body extra strength I am cleansing at a deeper level and i still feel great.

I’m not great at taking supplement either, I usually take them for a month or so and then stop, but with the Pure Body and SuperGreens + D I’ve taken every day for 5 months as I feel they help me to feel as healthy as I can, especially on those days when your body has more to handle!

IMG_0741

The Super Greens+D are a mix of greens, probiotics and Vitamin D. I love that I’m still getting my greens to balance my ph and keep me alkaline even on those days when i don’t eat enough salad or fit in my green juice to my morning routine.

Highly recommended :)

Day 4 Juice Cleanse and Day 5 Breaking the Cleanse

I’ve completed my winter cleanse and i’m happy to say it went really well!

juice pic

Day 4 :

  • 1 litre of Lemon, Msm, Stevia water
  • 1 litre of Beetroot, celery, apple
  • 1 litre of Lemon, ginger Juice
  • 5-6 cups of herbal tea

Day 5:

  • 1 litre of lemon, msm and stevia hot water
  • 1 litre of strawberry, blueberry, spinach and coconut water smoothie
  • Raw blended soup.
  • 5-6 cups of herbal tea

IMG_1847

I decided to break my cleanse on day 5, I felt I could have gone on for longer as I found that my body was super happy and satisfied with just juice, I had no cravings or hunger, but because of prior arrangements this weekend, I needed to break my cleanse to work back slowly to solid foods for the weekend where i will be enjoying a healthy early xmas with my  family.

Breaking the cleanse in the right way is very important as you don;t want to shock the body, you need to ease if back in gently, and be gentle on your digestion.

This is what I usually do on the day of  breaking  a cleanse and the following week:

  • First day – Juice in the morning as usual, then a smoothie in the afternoon, followed by a blended raw soup in the evening.
  • Second day – Juice in the morning, salad for lunch, the adding in some fats like avocado, and a little soaked nuts.
  • Third day – Juice in the morning, salad for lunch, cooked veggies of tea.
  • Fourth day – Juice in the morning, Salad for lunch adding some cooked grains like Quinoa, Cooked veggies for tea.
  • Fifth day – Juice in the morning, salad for lunch, and adding some animal proteins in like, fish and eggs after the 5th day.

Day 1-3 Winter Juice Cleanse

I like to do a Juice Cleanse with the change of the season.. so every 3 months or so.

IMG_2857

I’m on day 3 and it’s been a very enjoyable cleanse, I’ve done a number of  juice cleanse’s over the last 4 yrs.. and as your body becomes cleaner and your intake of nutrients/Minerals  is higher the body actually requires less food, and I have experienced this myself.

I did a 30 day juice cleanse in 2010, this one was my longest and the other cleanses have ranged from 1 day – 10 days.,

I used to give myself a set number of days that I would do the cleanse for ,but as I’ve gone on I find  it’s better for me to now just listen to my body as i go along.. so I’m on day 3 and i will see how i feel tomorrow and carry on with the cleanse or reintroduce some smoothies/soups back in. It’s very important to break a cleanse/fast the right way with light food, otherwise it can be a shock to the digestion and undo some of the good you did whilst cleansing.

IMG_2859

My first day juice cleansing :

  • 1 pint of hot lemon water
  • 1/2 litre of beetroot, celery and carrot.
  • 1 litre of beetroot, carrot, celery and mint.
  • 1 litre of tomato, garlic, red pepper, celery, kale and cayenne pepper.

I also consumed a 3-4 cups of herbal tea to keep warm.

Felt quite tired.. and had a headache in the evening and a few hunger pains, cravings for food, but only lasted one day.

Day 2 :

I had 3-4  cups of herbal tea throughout the day

Didn’t feel hungry at all today, my lemon water kept me going until 3pm, where I had my first juice of the day, and then my second around 6pm. experienced lots of mental clarity, and energy all day.

Day 3:

  • 1 litre of lemon and ginger tea.
  • 1 litre of apple, cucumber, parsley and celery.
  • 1 litre of  Beetroot Gazpacho
  • 2 – 3 cups of herbal tea, my body temperature was stable and i didn’t experience the usual juice cleansing chills..

Feeling very positive, happy, grateful, productive, calm, and much lighter in mind and body. Have had no detox symptoms since the headache on day 1, and feeling really good.

IMG_2878

I make sure i do the following daily to assist the toxins out and to have a more pleasurable cleanse:

  • dry body brush
  • take zeolites (touchstone) hands down my favourite
  • Milk thistle capsules at night
  • Hot bath each night to induce sweating and assisting toxins out through the pores
  • Enema’s, (I did 1 on day 3) I do these more often if i am experiencing more detox symptoms
  • Yoga and meditation to keep the lymph moving and circulation to keep warm

I think this has been the easiest cleanse so far.. and I have no idea at the moment how long I will cleanse for.. I will see tomorrow how I feel intuitively.

IMG_2879

I’ll keep you updated on my results and experience over the next few days.

Have a Juicy day !!

Chemical free Home Spa Day

I LOVE pampering myself, and try to put aside some time every couple of weeks to have a pamper day!! It’s vital for  health & wellbeing to take time for yourself.

My favourite thing to do is, give myself a hair treatment, apply a detoxifying mask to face and body, then lie in the bath with my favourite essentials oil bubble bath! Light a few candles… and Bliss :)

Of course, I like to keep it all chemical free so my body doesn’t ingest anything through the skin that isn’t safe, keeping my hormones balanced and my liver less taxed from toxins and poisons!

Here are my favourite chemical free products:

Amazing as a facial mask, and an all over body mask. Mix with water and slather all over your body, leave for 20 minutes (in a nice warm bathroom) run a bath while you wait… This clay draws out all the bad stuff, heavy metals, clogged pores! Its sooo good.

I use a bath water filter ball to remove the chlorine and icky stuff from the tap water. One of my favourite finds! and my favourite bubble bath, that smells divine! Aromatic Foaming Bath.

  • Coconut Oil – I like to buy the ones in glass jars, safe from leaching plastics which disrupt your hormones awfully!

Love, Love, Coconut oil, just loooove this stuff! I use this as my hair treatment, massage into dry hair, especially your scalp, leave in for however long you like, wash out with your usual shampoo and conditioner, I recommend chemical free ones, my favourite is Rose Shampoo and conditioner from Neals yard Remedies. Makes my hair so soft, works really well on wavy hair too, no frizz!

You really only need just a few products to pamper yourself with, I used to be a product junkie! but that was before I was aware of all the unsafe products out there, I now like to stick to just a few and ones I know are truly safe for my body inside and out.

What do you Pamper yourself with ? Have your tried Coconut Oil as a hair treatment?
