Day 3 Of The Clean Program

I’m doing the Clean Program, as I mentioned in my  last post.

clean1

It’s a 3 weeks cleanse, and I will be updating my experiences throughout  the next 21 days!

Day 3 !

I’m doing the cleanse from the book and so taking my own supplements as close to what the book recommends..

Supplements I’m taking:

Touchstones supergreens +d  x 2 capsules

digestive enzymes x 1 with lunch time meal

probiotics x 1 with evening shake

multi vitamin x 1 with morning shake

dandelion tea throughout the day

Energy & Movement:

I managed a little 30 minute workout this morning, I love moving my body in the morning and my energy was good once i got moving, I did wake up very hungry and a little heavy. I’ve been very productive through the day and my mind feels more free.. as my digestive load is lighter. I do feel my hunger rise up before each shake or meal.. and recognising emotional hunger coming up more in the evenings.

Bowels:

Bowel movements are good,  ordered the natural calm magnesium from amazon, so waiting for that to arrive to add to my evening water. I will also be adding in coffee enema’s if needed…

What I’m adding to my shakes:

sunwarrior protein powder vanilla x 1 scoop

maca x 1 tsp

inner glow beauty powder x 1/2 tsp

chia seeds x 1 tbsp

hemp seeds x 1tbsp

Usual base for shake :

coconut water

avocado

berries

cinnamon

greens – spinach/lettuce

Additional foods I’m avoiding:

lemon

coconut

raw cacao

( I have had tests run on these and unfortunately they are coming up as a food sensitivity for now, so have cut them out aswell as the elimination diet in the book, sad because I miss my lemon water and adding coconut in my smoothies and veggie dishes, but it is worth it for even more energy! )

The Clean Program – 21 days of Detox

I’ve decided to embark on a little detox.. I love a good cleanse, especially with each season change.

It will be for the most of June!

My usual choice of cleansing is my trusty green juice cleanse, which always makes me feel amazing!

IMG_2925

However I’ve been reading a book called Clean  by Dr Alejandro Junger, and have heard so many raving reviews from people who have completed the 21 day cleanse, that  I’ve been wanting to give it a go myself for a while now.

clean1

Gywenth Paltrow is a fan, and she has just brought out a cook book with the Elimination diet from the program in mind.

gwyneth-paltrow-its-all-good-cookbook

As you can probably tell from my previous posts, I love trying out lots of different “diet” theories to see what my body works and feels great on.

The Clean program is a cleanse you can buy online it comes with all the supplements you need and sachets for the shakes you will have for your morning breakfast.

Unfortunately, the cleanse isn’t available in the Uk yet… so I will be following the instructions in the book and putting my own cleanse together.

There are lots of supplements that come with the boxed program.

clean kit

A quick outline of the cleanse is following an elimination diet.. which is pretty close to what I’m already eating, but I will  avoiding Eggs and seafood, bananas, tomatoes, citrus and some nuts.

These will be my shopping list :) I for the most part avoid grains and follow a Paleo way of eating I guess, although I only eat fish.. I don’t really like to give myself a Label, I just eat what makes me feel good!

I will be experimenting with brown rice and a few of the other gluten-free grains whilst on the cleanse and see how it sits with me and my digestion ;)

If your interested take a look here and see if it’s a cleanse you’d like to try!

I will updating you with how I’m getting on!

Excited to start!

Move Your Body

The importance of moving our bodies daily is Top of my list for vibrant health!

walking

Nutrition and Fitness go hand in hand.

I’ve tried eating a healthy diet and being lazy… the extra nutrition helped but i still didn’t feel my best. I’ve tried exercising a lot.. and eating whatever I wanted (junk, not enough vegetables) and again I did not feel my best!

Now a winning combination and there is no mistake about it, combining great nutrition with daily exercise will make you feel amazing!

Moving our bodies daily is a great help for our lymphatic system, which doesn’t have its own pump, we have to help it out, our movement gets the lymphatic system working, which means carrying the waste through our lymph nodes.

Once the lymph fluid approaches the heart it is returned to circulation and makes its way for further cleansing of toxins by the liver and kidneys. The lymphatic vessels are not connected to the blood circulatory system, and unlike blood which is pumped by the heart, lymph fluid relies on bodily movement and exercise to drive it through the lymphatic system.

Forceful flushing of the system cleanses lymph nodes, contributes to healthy, clear lymph fluid, and boosts the immune system. Stagnant, slow-moving and thick lymph fluid is due to a lethargic, toxic body and weakened immune system.

So this is why we must move!

Healthy Lady

I love exercise that makes me sweat, as it’s a great cleanse for the body, cleans the pores and helps push those toxins through the skin. However not all movement needs to be hot and sweaty to get our lymph moving.

Here are my favourite ways to move daily:

  • A walk in the fresh air
  • Yoga
  • Sprints
  • Jogging
  • Rebounding
  • Massage
  • Hula Hooping
  • Dancing
  • Gardening
  • Skipping
  • Cycling
  • Crossfit

Benefits you may see from a healthy flowing lymphatic system:

  • Clearer Skin
  • Healthy Glow
  • Stronger Immune System
  • Better Digestion
  • Healthier Circulation
  • Less toxins being absorbed

Not only will your body feel and look better with regular daily movement, it will help your mood too with all the endorphins released whilst and after exercising.

I find exercising daily brings me these benefits :

  • More clarity & Focus
  • Stress Relief
  • Confidence
  • Self esteem
  • Self Love
  • Positive Attitude

Add some movement to you day and reap the benefits :)

Healthy Digestion For More Energy

Digestion is key to health in my eyes. Our tummy’s should be looked after, as it’s where we absorb our food all the goodness, vitamins and minerals in the food we eat.

Period-Pain

You see even if you are eating the healthiest diet, if you’re not digesting and absorbing the food your eating efficiently, you will notice this in not experiencing the best health, maybe tiredness, feeling bloated, skin problems, low energy, and many more symptoms.

Digestive health is the key to increasing your energy and feeling more alive.

I have a few tips on how to encourage a more efficient digestive system :

  • Stay hydrated – water is so important for healthy bowels, helps with constipation. Drink clean filtered water through out the day. I start with a lemon water, and try to drink 2 pints before I start my day.
  • Movement – move your body, walking, running, rebounding, yoga any form of exercise stimulates the digestion, gets the lymph moving and provides the body with more oxygen. All great for digestion.
  • Greensjuice, smoothies, salads, soups. Get your greens in, helps the body let go of waste, high in magnesium which is essential for great digestion too.
  • Food Combining – okay so this one may take a little practise, but i assure you your digestion will love you! The key is to eat fruit on its own, separate protein from starch meals, so tuna on that sweet potato ..would take the body longer to digest than say a sweet potato with veggies, or tuna with salad. This is a basic overview, give it a go!
  • Probiotics – take a good probiotic, eat fermented foods as much as you can, I love sauerkraut, kombucha and kefir.
  • 70% full – Don’t eat until you can’t eat anymore, leave a little room for digestion, we often overeat, I still do sometimes, being aware is a good first step, to eat until you are comfortable will help your digestion so much.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – add this to salads, or water. Great for digestion and alkalising the body!
  • Gluten ? – try going without gluten for a week, see how you feel..
  • Soaked Nuts & Grains – soaking nuts and grains before you eat or cook them helps with digestibility x 1o0! Nuts and grains have a coating that can irritate the gut, it’s a toxin that the grain/nut has to protect itself in nature. Soaking nuts/seeds and grains over night improves the nutrition too.
  • Eat 2 – 3 hrs  before bed-  Going to bed with a full tummy is not only uncomfortable, but stops the body from cleansing the body and regenerating ,as it has to work so hard on digesting instead. Digestion slows down the later it gets, and you are missing out on quality beauty sleep if your body can’t do it’s job properly whilst you sleep. You will find you wake up feeling much more refreshed if you eat at least 2-3 hrs before you sleep, and preferably before 8pm.
  • Quality Sleep -  Yes, sleep is good, but good quality sleep is better! I go to bed between 9 and 10pm, the hours before 12pm are the most important, these hours hold the most rest, repair and detoxification. We need energy for digestion, so if your body is tired, your digestion will be sluggish, and you will more than likely have cravings from sleep deprivation.
  • Grounding yourself –  being outside, fresh air, nature, is all great for your digestion and overall wellbeing. Try taking your shoes off and connecting to the earth.

happy-and-free

Enjoy :)

Kefir & Smoothies

I’ve been experimenting with fermented food and natural probiotic foods in the last month or so for healing digestive problems and Leaky Gut.

I have made home-made Sauerkraut, which I love!!  I am in the process of making Kombucha, which is still fermenting as we speak, it can take 2 weeks and because of the cold weather here in the UK, it seems to be taking a bit longer.. but I’ll let you know how it turns out.

The easiest of all has been Milk Kefir.

Okay so I am experimenting with Raw Dairy, I have always avoided Dairy as the pasteurized stuff is just not good because of all the hormones and antibiotics it comes with, and my body certainly doesn’t like it.

I’ve read a lot  about Raw milk in the past and I know that it is much more beneficial for those that can tolerate it, as it has its own enzymes for digestion of the lactose, it contains many vitamins and minerals and you can make Kefir out of it!

The Benefits of Kefir:

Kefir is very beneficial to gut health and is full of beneficial organisms which colonize your gut. That is why it is so important to include kefir if you are trying to  restore your intestinal flora or if  you are recovering from a serious illness or being treated with antibiotics.

Milk fermented with kefir grains is actually made a lot more digestible, so even lactose intolerant people can drink it.

Kefir is rich in tryptophan, and essential amino acid (building block of protein) that is responsible for keeping the nervous system healthy. I drink a cup of kefir before bed to ensure a good night’s sleep!

Kefir is also rich in a few B vitamins which are needed for so many functions of our bodies, such as skin, nervous system and digestive system.

How to make Kefir:

  • All you need is milk kefir grains, Ebay is a great place or look on-line.
  • Then you add the grains to a glass jar.
  • Pour the Organic raw milk on top 2/3 rds of the way and then close jar
  • leave on the kitchen counter for 24 hrs!

So easy!

The grains will float to the top and the milk starts to separate a little and it will appear thicker like a cream as it ferments.

  • You then remove the grains (never using anything metal, as this kills the good probiotic/bacteria)
  • place the milk grains into some more fresh milk and repeat the process.
  • The kefir you have just made goes into the fridge which slows down the fermentation and it keeps it from becoming too sour.. (Although some people like it thicker, more fermented and leave it out for longer, just experiment and see what you like.)

Once you have your kefir you can add it to smoothies, drink it plain, as long as you don’t heat it! as this will kill  all the goodness.

Recipes:

IMG_2618

Mango Kefir

  • half a mango
  • glass of kefir

Blend and serve :)

IMG_2707

Raspberry Kefir

  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1 glass of kefir
  • 1 tsp of xylitol

Blend and Serve :)

So simple and Easy!

Raw Milk is not for everyone, you really have to see how your individual body responds to it. You can make dairy free kefir from Coconuts, Water Kefir, Coconut Milk, Almonds. So many possibilities.

Day 4 & 5 Juice Cleanse & Break Fast

IMG_2711

Day 4 – I felt great, lots of energy , energised and clean from the inside out. I did a little meditation and Yoga, and Coffee Enema as my self love and cleansing protocol. The day was full of lots green juice.

Day 5 - I woke up with quite a lot of detox symptoms, feeling heavy, headache and overall achy feeling, I’ve had this before when doing cleanse’s so knew it would pass. I drunk lots of water, took a hot bath, did  a coffee enema and a water enema which took my headache away. The rest of the day I just rested and listened to my body. I started to feel hungry and my body was calling out for food towards the evening, even after juice, so I knew from previous cleanse’s and listening to my body that my body was done cleansing and was ready for food. I decided then I would  break my cleanse the next day , on day 6.

Day 6 – Woke up feel in much better than the day before, the detox symptoms had passed, I was still feeling hungry and certainly ready for some solid foods. Breaking a cleanse is as important as how you cleanse, and light, hydrating, easily digestible foods are best. I had absolutely delicious bowl of Organic Strawberries, Blueberries and some Raspberries. They tasted so sweet and amazing, I love how a juice cleanse really reprogram’s your taste buds and senses. I enjoyed a beautiful lightly steamed Courgette pasta dish. I will share the recipe below. I just had those 2 meals for the day as that’s what I felt my tummy could handle and wanted to ease it gently back to foods.

Feeling rebooted and a new-found love for salads and fresh foods! Although I always eat like that a Juice Cleanse really makes you appreciate fresh foods, they taste so much better after a cleanse and eating consciously becomes natural.

IMG_2718

Courgette Pasta :

  • 1 courgette spiralled into noodles and lightly steamed
  • baby plum tomatoes chopped
  • garlic chopped
  • olives chopped
  • caper chopped
  • rocket leaves
  • olive oil -drizzle
  • 1/2 avocado cubed
  • salt & pepper
  • parsley
  • oregano chopped

Mix Everything in a bowl , except the avocado which goes on top.

Leave to marinade for 30 mins (If you can wait that long)

Then top with the Avocado and Eat!

Enjoy x

Day 1 – 3 Spring Juice Cleanse

It’s gone super fast these last 3 days and I am feeling amazing!!

Day 1 : I felt quite hungry as I got used to the lighter feeling in my stomach, and I was feeling emotional attachment to food come up lots, especially by the evening! It was a challenge but I love the awareness it brings with it, as I knew I wasn’t hungry, just wanting to eat.

Day 2: I felt emotional when I woke up.. I wasn’t sure what was causing it,, juice cleansing can make emotions more intense as you don’t have food to push the feelings away. I sat and meditated and felt better straight after, sometimes you can feel an emptiness without food, and that’s a big reason to look at how we use food in our lives. One of the reasons I love Juice cleansing, it makes me very aware of how and when I use food and for what reasons. I find it very good at healing emotional food addictions over a time.

Day 3: I woke up at 6am! which is at least an hour earlier for me, felt awake and productive again and had a great focused day of working on my to do list! I had constant energy all day, and did a coffee enema in the afternoon, which always makes me feel even more amazing.

Here are some of the juices I’ve had over the 3 days. They are all veg based, and the only fruit I use is Lemon, as i am on a no sugar cleanse, I feel my best on green based juices with the occasional beetroot and carrot to sweeten.

IMG_2585

Beetroot, Cucumber & Ginger. Simple but so refreshing!

IMG_2605

Cucumber, Fennel, Lemon, Ginger & Parsley.

IMG_2597

Lemon, Warm Water, Turmeric and Cayenne pepper.

IMG_2587

Fennel, Lemon, Cucumber, Celery, Coriander & Ginger

IMG_2613

Coriander, Spinach, Red bell pepper, Carrot, Lemon & Fennel.

It’s been super cold in the UK and my best friend has been my hot water bottle, and I’ve kept warm with hat and scarf when it was really chilly! Warm baths and herbal tea’s help too.

Springtime Cleanse

It’s that time again! Seasonal Cleanse time!

I love it <3

tattoo 3

I love to cleanse at the change of each season, leaving me refreshed and renewed. This time I will be cleansing the heavier winter energy and foods into lighter, brighter spring energy. I love spring when all the flowers start to come out, the sun shines with bright blue skies, and i want my body to reflect that too.

juice

My favourite way to cleanse is Juice cleansing, I will drink fresh juices, mainly green juices for anywhere between 3 and 10 days usually. I don’t set a goal end date, I like to just see how my body feel’s and go with that.

You can see my previous Juice cleanse’s here and here and here and here  ! ( I’ve done a lot more, but these are the one’s I blogged about)

I drink as much juice as my body wants, no restrictions, I usually don’t juice fruit, as I feel better with vegetable based juices using Lemon, Carrot and Beetroot as the natural sweetener. I’ve also been on a I Quit Sugar challenge for the last 2 weeks, so my taste buds are finding sweetness in everything now. I highly recommend Sarah Wilson’s Ebooks, I am a bit of an Ebook junkie, her’s are great, her recipe book is amazing too for any of you looking to cut out the white stuff!

Although I haven’t eaten processed sugar since… well i can’t even remember it’s been that long.. probably years.. I am just cutting down on fruit sugars, dried fruits and honey, this natural sweeteners, I have always felt better on a low GI, low sugar lifestyle and I come back to it always to feel more balanced and clear..

As you can see I have done lots of complete no sugar challenge’s here and here and here! ( I love myself a challenge )

So back to my Juice Cleanse, I always follow the same protocol when I juice cleanse as it helps me have a smooth ride down the detox river!

  • Colon cleansing – Coffee Enema’s
  • Zeolites
  • Sweat it out in a hot bath or Sauna
  • Light exercise, Yoga, rebounding, walking
  • Get daily sunlight & fresh air
  • Daily skin brush
  • Meditation
  • Sleep by 9:30 -10pm

I usually drink between 1.5 litres of juice to 3 litres depending on what my body asks for each day. I drink warm herbal teas to keep warm and add herbs like Turmeric, Ginger and Cayenne Pepper to my juices to stimulate circulation and detoxify the body further.

Results I get from my seasonal juice cleanse:

  • Glowing skin
  • More energy
  • Wake up earlier refreshed
  • More productivity
  • More Clarity
  • Time increases for what I need to do
  • Resets my bodies cravings for healthy foods, lighter foods
  • Brings my natural appetite into balance
  • Improves my relationship with food
  • Cuts cravings
  • Hydration levels are so high i don’t need moisturiser at all

I will be updating my blog with how my juice cleanse goes and share the recipes I use for a no sugar Juice cleanse :)

Enjoy

Fermented Food – Healing you gut and Improving your health

Sauerkraut! Have you tried it? Okay so it may be a an acquired taste, but did you know how beneficial it is to us?

Fermented Foods are amazing, they are great for healing our digestion system, balancing our good and bad bacteria, healing leaky guts which can lead to food intolerance, allergies, depression, malnutrition and many more symptoms.

A healthy digestion I believe after lots of research and 10 yrs of experience of healthy living in my own life is one of the most important aspects of a healthy happy body, physically and emotionally.

The digestion is our power house, it’s where we get our energy from, it’s the place which nourishes us and feeds us. You know how you feel if you eat too much, it reflects it self not only in low energy levels whilst our bodies desperately try to digest all the food we over ate.. but also in our mood, we feel sluggish, don’t feel as cheery or as energetic.

60-70% of our immune system is in our gut, so if your digestion isn’t working properly, if you’re experiencing bloating, heaviness, gas, constipation, diarrhea or any other digestive discomfort, this will also show up in more frequent colds, virus and an overall feeling of just not feeling at your best.

So. Fermented Foods, a few more reason to sell you on these foods:

  • Cheaper than probiotic
  • You can make them yourself, super easy to make!
  • Your body will actually start craving the goodness

You can experience:

  • clearer skin
  • more energy
  • a flat stomach
  • strong digestion
  • clarity and better concentration
  • stronger immune system
  • better sleep

Have I convinced you yet??

Well here is a recipe I have for Sauerkraut, it’s so easy, you’ll want to give it a go ;)

IMG_2287

Sauerkraut

Ingredients

  • 1 – 2 cabbages, shredded
  • 1 tbsp carraway seeds
  • 1-2 tbsp of sea salt (make sure its good quality sea salt)
  • Filtered water

Add the cabbage and caraway seeds to a bowl, add in the sea salt and massage with your hands for 10 mins. Which is actually very therapeutic, like meditation, a stress ball etc..

The cabbage will start to release juices. Then add to a clean Mason Jar that has been cleaned well and with hot water to kill any nasties.. we only want the good bacteria to grow!

Push the cabbage into the mason jar, packing it in tight so no air pockets can form as we want to keep the oxygen out. This is the process of healthy fermentation. Once the jar is full and packed tight, the juices should cover the top layer of cabbage by at least 1cm. If  not add a little filtered water and a pinch of salt until it does. You can put a cabbage leaf right at the top as a seal and then screw the lid on.

The leave somewhere at room temperature, in your kitchen, and the fermentation process can take about 3-4 days.

The sauerkraut will be ready to eat, there shouldn’t be any mould.. but you may have a top slayer of slightly slimy cabbage which you can discard and the cabbage underneath should be fine.. it will smell kind of vinegary when ready!

I recommend you start slow when adding fermented foods into your diet, a tbsp a day and work up..

Because it is a fermented food it is loaded with good bacteria which will start to work on your levels of good and bad bacteria by killing the bad guys! which can initially cause bloating and some symptoms.. but go slowly and you will start to reap the benefits!

It’s a great, ancient food, and I believe can improve your health in unbelievable ways :)

Enjoy

Detox the right way!

Touchstone Essentials!

I’ve been using these products for at least 4 months now and I am super impressed! It can be hard when we are trying to eat better and cleanse the body that if we cleanse too fast we can experience nasty detox symptoms that can give us breakouts, tiredness, moodiness and cravings.. which is why colon cleansing whilst cleansing and eating a healthier diet is a good idea. Help get those toxins out of the body that are being stirred up.

In addition to colon cleansing I highly recommend this Zeolite product by Touchstone Essentials. –  Pure Body.

I wanted to give these products a good go, as they were recommended to me last year, and I only recommend products I truly believe in and have experienced for myself with good results.

Also I am fussy when it comes to the quality of supplements that are available! Touchstone Essentials ticked all the boxes for me, so another reason I was attracted to them. They use the whole food form to create their supplements and do not heat over 106F to preserve the nutrients of the fruit, veg or herb used.

So far I’ve tried the following supplements:

Pure Body and Pure Body extra strength

IMG_2065

This is a zeolite product and comes in 2 strengths, they recommend you take the normal strength first for at least 2-3 months before you move onto the Pure Body extra strength, so your body can detox at a good speed and not too fast that it’s uncomfortable.

Zeolites are a negatively charged mineral which works like a magnet, attracting positively charged toxins, safely and gently carrying them out of the body.

I have been taking this every day for about 5 months, and i have noticed a significant increase in energy, clearer skin, and more clarity and creativity. It’s been a great addition to my healthy lifestyle and I feel rest assured that this product helps me get rid of toxins in a fast effective way. Great when I’m Juice Cleansing or detoxifying at a deeper level, using the zeolites relieves my from any detox symptoms you can experience when stirring up old toxins. The Pure body helps the toxins leave the body, instead f being stirred up but then re-entering the blood stream.

Purebody is great at removing heavy metals too! My immune system has felt so much stronger too since taking Pure Body, and now i’m taking Pure Body extra strength I am cleansing at a deeper level and i still feel great.

I’m not great at taking supplement either, I usually take them for a month or so and then stop, but with the Pure Body and SuperGreens + D I’ve taken every day for 5 months as I feel they help me to feel as healthy as I can, especially on those days when your body has more to handle!

IMG_0741

The Super Greens+D are a mix of greens, probiotics and Vitamin D. I love that I’m still getting my greens to balance my ph and keep me alkaline even on those days when i don’t eat enough salad or fit in my green juice to my morning routine.

Highly recommended :)
