Holistic Living – Organic Skin Care

I have been a fan of Neals Yard Remedies for some time now! I love their products, their ethics, the packaging they use, everything about them!

The product which made me fall in love with them! Wild Rose Beauty Balm!

Most importantly their products are all organic, paraben free, chemical free, natural and safe for the body!

They use herb’s and essential oils in all of their products, each product just smells so amazing, and brilliant at balancing, calming or rejuvenating the mind, body and spirit.

I thought I would write a few review of the products I have been using lately.

Remedies to Roll!  A blend of essential oils which you roll on over your pulse points, I use the Study one which smells amazing and works to focus and calm the mind.

I use this when I’m studying, writing and about to do anything creative, its brilliant at bringing your mind back to the right place.

I carry this around in my hand bag, it’s one of my essentials :)

Hair treatments! Another one of my favourite past times are face and hair treatments, laying in a hot bath and relaxing after a long day!

This hair treatment is my favourite. Rosemary & Cedarwood Treatment.

The ingredients which make my hair feel so soft and healthy is Coconut oil, Cedarwood oil, Rosemary oil and Lavender oil.

I leave it in my hair for however long I decide to lay in the bath, then just wash it out afterwards.

You can use it as a hair tamer too, using a little amount and running it through your hair for added shine and helping calm frizzy hair..

My hair smells so good after I’ve used this.

Spot treatment Gel! I rarely breakout anymore, luckily I got that under control with my lifestyle and healthy foods.

Sometimes however if I am stressed, or doing a cleanse which may push out toxins through my skin, this spot gel is a life saver.

It literally is the fastest working spot treatment I have ever used, if i put it on overnight, by the next morning the spot is either gone, or it is hardly noticeable at all. It takes all the redness out and the skin heals so quickly with no mark left behind.

I believe that the Gota Kola used in this product is one of the most beneficial. So great at healing skin!

So these are just a few of my favourite items at the moment :)

Cheesy, Onion and Garlic Kale Chips

My favourite!! Kale Chips, or crisps as we call them in the UK.

I can’t enjoy these just yet on my cleanse.. as I’m nut free for the next 7 days.

However these are a great snack and replacement for crisps, potato crisps and a great savoury treat!

My secret recipe:

  • 2 cups of cashews
  • 1tsp garlic powder
  • 1tsp onion powder
  • 4 tbs of nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 cup of water.

Blend together everything except the water.

add the water in slowly to get to your desired consistency, not too runny!

Combine the mixture with your Kale in a large bowl !

Lay the Kale out on your dehydrating sheets and they take approx 12 -14hrs on 105F.

You can do these in the oven, if you use the lowest temp and leave the door open! You would need to keep an eye on them.

Kale is so good for you and kids love these crisps, which is a perfect way of getting more greens into you and your family’s life :)

Day 23 – The Rose Cleanse – Chocolate Coconut Cream

The cleanse is still going well, I’m really getting into Juicing until Dinner now! Actually in the last few days I have not even wanted Juice that much, I have been drinking lots of water with lemon, aloe and stevia, and uphill 4pm not had any need for juice. My body is definitely in cleansing mode :) I’m feeling much lighter, and enjoying the lightness of liquids.

I had one of these this morning with my water!

I had a lovely  goats cheese salad followed by a sweet frittata and accompanied with some Chocolate Coconut Cream I created:

  • Can of coconut milk.
  • Stevia
  • Chocolate powder.

Blended together and  poured over the Frittata’s.

It was very creamy and chocolatey, best combination!

Day 21 – The Rose Cleanse, Chocolate Coco Soup!

I had some heavy detox symptoms today, the usual horrible migraine headache I get when my body has stirred up lots of toxins and my body is doing it’s best to remove them all! This can sometimes be uncomfortable and I had an enema to try to take off the edge of the symptoms. It did help, but my headache stuck around for the day so I took this message from my body and took it easy!

I had lots of liquids!

This yummy Cinnamon Tea by Higher Living, with some Stevia.

A Large Carrot and Romaine Juice with Vanilla Stevia !

And a Cucumber, Celery, Mint, Spinach Juice with Stevia.

Towards the end of the day I felt better and my appetite came back which is a good sign my body had dealt with the majority of the toxins and whatever deep cleansing had been taking place…

When the body is busy cleansing, you can lose your appetite as the body wants to use the energy it would have used for digestion, to use solely on cleansing the body. Always listen to you body, it knows best!!

For my evening meal I had some buckwheat and sweet potato noodles, with tomato, courgette, onion marinara sauce. Sides of sweet potato fries with cayenne pepper and salt and some Sweet battered Zucchini Sticks another great recipe from The Vegetable Centric Kitchen!!

I enjoyed my salad first with some carrot sticks and dijon mustard and then the cooked food followed. This is important, to start with the raw salad first to help digest the cooked food and make digestion as smooth as possible.

For Dessert I played with 2 of my favourite ingredients! Coconut and Chocolate !

I came up with a Chocolate dish with the consistency of yoghurt. It was delicious and did the trick for my sweet craving.

I called it Chocolate Coco Soup :

I melted Cacao butter, added some Cacao powder and Stevia to sweeten. Then mixed this mixture with some coconut milk.

You can eat it warm or cool it in the fridge. I did both ;)

Oh yes, I have to share a picture of my first home-grown radish!! I was very excited to see this little baby radish appear, the others are growing really well, and I can’t wait to prepare a lovely salad with them soon.

A Totally Natural Hair Conditioner for Beautiful Hair

I love spending an evening pampering myself and connecting with my inner self, I find it very grounding and centering. Especially when on a cleanse or detox. It’s important to take time for yourself every day to do something for you, and to bring yourself out of your head and into your body. A Bath, Face mask, Hair Treatment always sorts me out after a long day.

I made a hair treatment from just natural ingredients, no added nasties, and it’s really great for hair! Especially thick curly hair,

My hair is actually very fine, but this treatment gives it body and makes it much fuller and healthier looking.

Hair Treatment:

  • Bentonite Clay
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Aloe Vera

For my long hair i used the following measurements, 4 tbsp of bentonite clay, 4 tbsp of apple cider vinegar and 2 tbsp of aloe. The mixture will be like a thick cream consistency. Play with it until you have a good consistency for a hair mask, not too runny!

(it’s important not to use any metal when making this mixture, so use a wooden spoon and glass bowl, Bentonite and metal don’t go well together because of the drawing properties of the clay)

Apply the mixture to slightly damp hair, applying from root to tip. Leave on for up to 30 minutes.

You can also use this as a face mask, so I used any left overs from the bowl on my face too. Laid back in the bath with my favourite Organic Essential oil’s Bubble Bath and relaxed for 30 minutes.

Rinse off with warm water and follow with a conditioner!

This was the outcome which I was very happy with :)

Day 19 – 20 The Rose Cleanse – Stuffed Mushies and Chocolate Crunch Balls

My Cleanse went well this weekend,

I enjoyed bike rides, and lots of  Beetroot Juice!

The Liver loves Beetroot Juice! It’s a powerful cleanser, especially combined with colon cleansing too.

My Dinner on Saturday:

Stuffed Mushies! Poached egg and asparagus,

and a watercress, spinach and rocket salad with Radish, onion and dijon mustard & Apple cider vinegar!

The Stuffed Mushrooms were easy peasy to make and delicious.

Mini Portabello Mushrooms, with tomato marinara sauce, topped with goats cheese, popped in the oven for 25mins on 175C

I made some Chocolate Crunch Balls for Alex, they weren’t Rose cleanse friendly as they contain Nuts and dried fruit together, so I had a little dark chocolate for my dessert.

Chocolate Crunch Balls: ( Vegan, Raw, Gluten Free, Dairy Free )

Almonds, Cacao Powder, Blend together to make fine flour, add dates to make a dough.

Roll into Balls.

Melt Cacao Butter, add Cacao Powder and Agave syrup to taste, Coat Crunch Balls and set in fridge!

10 days to go on the Rose Cleanse, and totally in the flow now of juicing until dinner!

Day 18 – The Rose Cleanse – Aloe Vera, Juice & Cake Making

I love juicing at weekend’s! It free’s up so much time to do more of the stuff you want to! Which is what you want at the weekend as it tends to fly by!

I made some Cakes in the Skinny Mini kitchen for  customer order’s.

I also made an extra cake for my housemates and friends to sample over the weekend!

I enjoyed the following Juices:

Carrot, Romaine, Stevia and Cacao powder!  Yes Carrots and chocolate taste great together too ;0)

It’s a great way to get your greens in! This Juice had a whole head of Romaine, and mixed with the carrots is sweetly delicious.

I also enjoyed another Red Velvet Juice! Beetroot, carrot, Vanilla Stevia ,Spinach and cacao powder!

Yes I have totally indulged in Cacao in my juices lately, I’ll make sure I balance it out with my Green juices! It won’t be an everyday occurrence for me as I am a little sensitive to caffeine, or a lot sensitive to caffeine! I have to be careful with me and chocolate , especially for my adrenal health. It cools all under control :)

I have been taking Aloe for the last 3 days!

I got mine from Pukka Herbs, I really like the ethics of this company and how they source their herbs, all organic too! This Aloe is great as it has no added sweeteners or any other preservatives, which some “fresh” bottled Aloe Vera’s contain! Check the labels.

Aloe Vera is great for the skin as it contains MSM, it is also great for digestion and cleaning the bowel’s! Yes a lovely natural way to get things moving, which is great when you are juicing and want to help the toxins “waste” leave easily.

It is also a way of getting some B12 in your diet, if you don’t eat any animal products.. I do eat Fish and Goats cheese, but getting additional B12 is great as even meat eaters can be deficient in B12!

It also helps boost the immune system, it stimulates the white blood cells that fight virus’s.

It reduces inflammation and is high in the amino sugars needed by the body for cell regeneration.

So it’s a very beneficial plant to add to your lifestyle!

I will let you know how I get on with it and the benefits I feel in the coming week :)

The Rose Cleanse – Cauliflower Pizza, Chocolate Mousse and Chocolate Chip Yoghurt!

Wow so this week has flown by! I’m on Day 17 of the Cleanse now.  I have been experimenting with some lovely recipes in the last 3 days and I want to share them with you!

I have also been playing with my drinks and juice’s which has been a great help in not letting me get bored with juicing until dinner for another 13 days!

This morning I had a Water, Lemon, Aloe and Stevia drink. I’ve had this 2 mornings in a row now, and it’s perfect for first thing when I’m not ready for my Juice yet. I am busiest in the mornings so my body rarely wants juice,  it does need hydration though so I usually drink about a litre of water with the Lemon, Aloe and Stevia up until 12.

I then make my Green Juice! which usually includes, kale, lemon, romaine, cucumber, celery, ginger. and Stevia for sweetness

I did make myself a decadent Juice the other afternoon, I found it on Rande’s Blog, The Vegetable Centric Kitchen!  which if you’ve read my other post’s will know I am VERY fond of her recipes! They keep me going through this cleanse :)

Red Velvet Juice! This juice was so amazing, I have just learnt the beauty of combining beetroot and chocolate together! It’s on of my favourite things now.

I made myself a Cauliflower Pizza for dinner on day 15! The Base is made from cauliflower, egg and goats cheese! This is from Natalia Rose’s detox community Recipes.

You just need 2 cups of Cauliflower “rice” which is very finely chopped cauliflower, I put mine in the vita-mix and it was done!

A large head of cauliflower should make 2 cups of the rice. You then pour boiling water over the rice in a bowl. Let it sit in the water for 6-7 minutes, the cauliflower will “steam” in the water and become softer.

Then you drain the Cauliflower, put into the middle of a tea towel, squeeze all the excess water out, you will be left with a cauliflower mixture that is quite dry or drier..

Mix this with 1 Egg and between 1 oz and 4 oz of goats cheese. I did 4 oz but I think  I would like less next time.. You combine this together, I just got stuck in with my hands and made it into a dough like ball, I also added some Oregano.

Then press down onto a baking sheet in a flat pizza bas shape, round or rectangle.. I used parchment paper, but next time I’m just going to use a greased baking sheet as the paper got stuck to the base in area’s..

Cook for 30-35 minutes at 200c in the middle of the oven until crispy and browned.

Then add your toppings of choice! You could top it with any vegetables you want, to keep it food combined! I used Seed’s of Change tomato and garlic marinara Sauce, (I Love Garlic) and topped with some more Goats cheese!

Put back in the oven for 5 – 10 mins

and Ta Da!! Healthy, Gluten free, Carb Free, Perfectly food combined Pizza!

Cuts into perfect hand sized slices !

I shared it with Alex and she gave it the thumbs up and said she could eat it every day! She always says that when she really loves something! So I know it was a winner :)

It didn’t last long and was thoroughly enjoyed, perfect for 2 people!  Best of all there was no horrible heavy bloated feeling after this Pizza either, like you get with the Normal Dough Pizza’s! and it’s good for you! I am in love with this recipe :)

I have made 2 different desserts over the last few days, all sugar-free, food combined and detox friendly for my Rose Cleanse journey!

Chocolate Chip Yoghurt:

I bought some goat yoghurt and mixed in some Raw Cacao powder, 3 drops of Stevia and topped with some Cacao Nibs, I added in Cinnamon and some nutmeg too! These are optional, but I love my spices!

Quick, easy and Yummy!

I also made Chocolate Coconut Mousse:

2 Avocado’s :

Add to blender, with 2 -3 tbsp cacao powder,  1/2 cup of Coconut Milk or Cream, and 4 drops of Stevia, more if you like it sweeter…

Blend until smooth.

I added a little cinnamon as I love cinnamon and it’s great for  balancing sugar levels.

My vanilla and Orange Stevia turned up today!! So can’t wait to play with those!

Beyond Food

Day 15 of The Rose Cleanse!!

This is the longest cleanse I’ve done since my 30 day juice feast back in 2010! With any long cleanse you get to learn a whole lot about yourself in a very deep way I find. Not always easy, but sooo beneficial in the long run.

Without the comfort of food, without the heaviness of food, without the numbingness of food, your emotions have nowhere to hide.

Especially when drinking just juice until dinner, you tend to “feel” a hell of a lot more.

Now this can be hard, but it’s certainly not a bad thing, it may seem it at the time, but once you have actually dealt with an emotion instead of stuffing it down with another meal, and I’m not just talking about unhealthy foods, even healthy ones we can still use in emotional eating ways!

A cleanse gives you time to learn the tools to make your life much more meaningful, one that serves you better, you learn how to not rely on food as your pleasure and turn to other things, people, hobbies, nature, beauty, meditation, exercise ! Living life as your pleasure.

For me this is the most valuable and hardest lesson! I have been eating healthy foods for years, but I was more than aware that I still had an unhealthy relationship to food sometimes, when angry, sad, happy, I used to eat or not eat.. it has been something I am always working on, as I feel that we should be free of food controlling us in any way.

It’s very common, most people do eat for emotional reasons, and not when hungry, and for the next step in health it is important we do not over eat, or not eat when we are not truly hungry as this will put added stress on our body, and I believe deplete our energy source! Which is what we all want, more energy, so we can do more things, and more energy makes us feel better all round.

As I sit here after my second juice of the day,  lunchtime juice, I think I’m still hungry.. then I stop and work on that bad habit I have been socially brought up with! With every cleanse I am reprogramming myself.

I feel that my body is not truly hungry, it just wants to be stimulated,  and it feels so empowering once you actually get into a habit of replacing that food craving – “need”  the  hole that needs to be filled, and nourish yourself in other ways.

Here are a few of my favourites that I have come to more and more use since I started the cleanse:

Hot baths, Taking photos, looking at pinterest, writing, yoga, running, walking outside, deep breathing, phone a friend/family, sing, play music, dance, read, Aromatherapy, Face masks!

It occurs to me that when we are “hungry” we are not always hungry for food, but mostly hungry for Life!

This Cleanse and any cleanse will make you more aware of what nourishes you, what excites you, what feed’s your soul, mind and body and what makes you feel like your actually living..?!

What are your thoughts?  What do you do to nourish you ?

Day 10 -14 – The Rose Cleanse

This is Chloe, she is the family dog! She only has one eye, and half a body of fur, (we call her pinky, and apply her sunscreen every summer) she is the luckiest dog ever ,after falling into a scalding hot bath as a puppy and suffering terrible burns. She is the loveliest, most laid back dog I know and we love her lots!!

We took her for lots of walks over the weekend at home! The weather was perfect, not too hot or cold and bright!

I mananged to fit in all my juices over the weekend: Lots of Green! :)

LOTS!!

I enjoyed a yummy Kabocha squash, which I’ve never had before, I roasted it with cinnamon and cayenne pepper, it was sweet and caramelised, delicious! served with a large avocado salad, with fennel fries and Dijon mustard. YUM.

I also got a gym session in! I did some running, and weights and ab’s, I’m lucky enough to get free personal training from my lovely lady! Here she is doing her stuff:

I then nourished my self with more Baby Time!

It was a perfect family weekend.

Day 14 of cleanse, nearly half way there!
